Mm1240 mesh grill?

Anyone know of any mesh grills for the mm1240's? I'm not a big fan of the Polk grills, want something simple that will protect the speakers.

You might be able to get away with using the Metra Waffle grill. The only real problem that I can see is the xmax of the sub. If the xmax is too long, then the rubber surround will hit the grill, and in return sound like it is blown, which is not what you want. If this is the case, then you will need to buy a 3/4" thick MDF spacer that is for a 10" sub. This would be placed on the sub where the grill goes first. Then once that is in place you then attach the the grill the spacer, and then you have your grill. That is one option, and if that is not what you want. Then you will either have to go with the Polk ones, or you can buy the JL Audio style bars. Hope this helps.

Sorry just noticed you have the 12 not the 10. They make them for the 12's too.

Thanks, I'll check them out. Do you know if they are strong/stiff or will they indent/bend in when pushed on?HU: Clarion DRZ9255 4 Way Active:

Well 3/4" MDF is pretty strong, but in the end it is still particle wood if you will. Yes, it will break it you put alot of pressure on it in the wrong way, or twist it, but if you line up your holes, and tighten them in a star fashion then they should be good to go. I know you can find the spacers on ebay too.

Just to be clear, I'm referring to the strength of the grill itself. Would putting pressure on the center of the grill collapse it at all?HU: Clarion DRZ9255 4 Way Active:

Oh. Sorry I misunderstood. Uh yes. If you put enough pressure on it, it will collapse. this is also true for any grill cover you get unless it is titanium, or steel or something like that. At the moment I have three JBL CS10's in my truck, and they are covered with the Metra mesh grill, and they work just fine for me. I am not that easy on my box, and tend to just through stuff in the back seat with out looking or I am in a hurry. I got them so that just in case, I or someone either throw something back there, or I or someone else elbows them, the subs will have some buffer of protection. Now in the last three years I have had them on there, I have had no issues, and with the amount of abuse the box has taken itself, the subs are all in excellent shape still. The other option you have if you dont want to do the grill, is have the subs firing downward instead of forward or upward.

I don't have enough room to reverse them. Good to hear they've lasted well for you. Crutchfield has them for $10 each, I might give them a try. What size are yours? I was trying to find the inside diameter of the 12's to make sure they'll fit around the speaker properly.HU: Clarion DRZ9255 4 Way Active:

Sorry for the delayed response. I have three 10" woofers at the moment. For the most part all 10", 12", and 15" speakers are all about the same size as far as diameter. If you look at your manual for the speakers it will show you what the inner ring size is. As for the grill I would use amazon or somthing. They are cheeper there if I recall, and since it is what I would consider a "wear part", meaning it will be used, and abused potentially. You dont want to spend a bunch of money on it. Get it fairly cheep, and if anything get a few extra in case one get dented or something. Always a good idea to have a few spares just in case, I know I have like two or three extra covers just in case. If you go with the mesh grill, it will sit on top of the woofer, and pretty much should be flush with the outter circumference of the woofer. This is as it should be, so no worries there. However it might be a little different if you use the spacer then put the grill on top of that.

Ordered a couple off eBay. I mounted the subs with a gasket made of sillicone so I can use the gasket the subs came with as a spacer for the grills. I applied the silicone to the box, let is dry for a bit till some of the tackiness went away then tightened the subs down on top of it. this way hopefully they won't be difficult to remove if need be.
These are the ones I ordered,

I bought the first ones as well, I don't know if they are going to work, they are almost flat, it's rediculious.
