Fuse ratings for monitor series speakers

What would be a decent fuse rating for the monitor series speakers.
What would be the lowest and the highest that one would put to protect there valuable peerless tweeters?
Every time I crank up the Carver and the music starts to sound real good, pop goes the fuses:evil:
I don't have rebuilt crossovers, there stock.
I don't see any information in the owners manuals either!

1 amp/fast, that's it. Either buy a better amp or learn to live within the limits of your current one.Political Correctness'.........defined

Is it clipping that blows the fuse
-
To Shacky
No the amp is not in clipping.
Im only using half of it power and the fuses are blowing. I have yet to find a home speaker that will not blow using this amp.
And no there is nothing wrong with it. I have owned it from day one and have had it serviced numerous times back at the factory keeping it up to specs.
To F1nut there is no amp better for the price I paid for it back in the day.
Also just for information this amp is plugged into a dedicated line to the house on a 20amp breaker.
Yes it makes a difference doing it this way versus just plugging it into a standard plug in the house.
Also I am running a multi amp setup. -
Which model Carver ya got ???

You don't own this forum, so I'll ask any question stupid or not whether you like it or not!
Nobody here is putting a gun to you head here to read my STUPID post. So for future reference just bypass my stupid post. -

Basically Barcus you only need 81 more posts and you can try to sell your wonderful M1.0t if you want. Yeah i'm having a crappy day and took it out on you to an extent. If you notice F1's response is correct and he has 25K posts in this forum and would be considered a pretty respected member with a huge knowledge of most of the vintage polk gear. Your attitude toward someone suggesting you are overdriving the amp into clipping (might come from stating that all speakers you have ever driven w the amp have blown fuses) but then again it couldn't be that. Also your opinion that your amp is the greatest bang for the buck amp back in it's day seems to be a little over the top. There is always better and always not so good gear and still it's only an opinion.
Yes I'm being an ****, at least I can change my attitude tomorrow. You can't fix stupid. Send me your addy and I'll send you some lube so you can f yourself.

How? Im not pegging the meters in the red?
Am I missing something? Misinformed?
Im not into starting a war of words here. Just looking for information.
And you know that how? -
It's kind of difficult to believe that the amp does that with "all" speakers unless there is something wrong with it.
Lot's of guys here run Carvers and this is the first thread I've seen make a blanket claim about the amp being unable to run without blowing fuses yet being up to spec. If you don't believe me, just do a search here. What you'll find is members with Carver repair problems.
Are the speakers you're driving 4-8 ohms?

How about doing quick check for DC on the amp? There's a huge thread on the subject over at audiokarma.org
Plus I wasn't asking if your particular amp is clipping. More "what is it that blows the fuse? Clipping? DC? Certain power or heat limit?" I'd like to know from our experts.
Didn't mean to diss your amp in process. But I'd suspect either something is wrong with it or you are just trying to get too much SPL out of it if it's blowing so many speaker fuses. -

Think of those meters as something shiny to look at rather than the gospel truth.
Using the numbers on a clock face, what position is your volume control when the speakers fail?Political Correctness'.........defined

President of Club Polk -
I am not familiar with Carver amps. Did some checking on AudioReview. Saw the following which from your post about having yours back to factory several times rings true:
These amps do have a tendency towards requiring TLC or repair. I have had the original amp back to Carver a couple of times over the years. -

I have always run 8 ohm speakers

Ok I can live with that

11oclock -
Thanks guys for all the info.
I was not trying to ask a stupid question, and I sure as heck did not want to open a can of worms.
I hope I answered back some of the questions you guys have back to me.
I do know this is not the god of amps, so my apologies if it sounded this way.
I will go to the Carver forums and get answers for this amp blowing speakers since it seems more the fault of the amp than the speakers. -
What Polk Monitors are you driving? One pair or speakers or two?
-

Hmmm.......in general past 12 noon is getting into clipping levels, so perhaps volume abuse isn't the issue, although something sure is and it's not the speakers. You stated that you've had the amp serviced many times, so one would think they checked the DC offset. What repairs have been made? What pre amp are you using? What is your source?Political Correctness'.........defined

One of the main caps was replaced, the other times just your typical cked bias and dc offset ran amp all cks well.
Preamp I am using is the Carver C1
Source varies RTR MD CD -

Have you ever tried a different pre amp?
At this point I'd suggest giving Rolland a call and see if he can shed a little light on the matter.

K thanks will do -
I was in a bit of a hurry earlier. There are a few possibilities....there's a problem with the amp, there is a gain mismatch between the pre and the amp, none of the previous and that is the clipping point for the amp. I think a talk with Rolland will help figure it out. Let us know what he has to say about it.Political Correctness'.........defined
