What I'm getting at is we had a do or don't when it comes to leaving your amps on.I was at my desk and the way it is positioned I could just about see the rear of my sub. It's on constantly, does this count as an amp on or are we talking two different processes here.I believe it is a form of power amplifier which again stays on all the time. Does anyone ever shut down their pwrd subs as a rule or just when going on vacation or other extended peroids of timeor maybe never.

I turn my sub on maybe 3-4 times a year. There just are not that many movies that really need a sub.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers

a lot of subs have auto on/off, so they turn on when a signal is detected, and they turn off when a signal hasn't been detected for some predetermined amount of time.

Well, not really "off", but a lower power "standby" state...

Correct. There has to be an electrical component active to detect the signal, and generally a there is a light to let you know whether it's "on" or not, but the important part is that the actual amplifier is off when in that standby state.
