A PayPal address is simply an email address. Which are publicly available if your ISP decides to sell a list on email addresses...

It seems to me that the real problem here is that you had an agreement to make cables for people, you started making the cables (which costs money), and then they never paid you. Right?
Payment method, whether paypal or otherwise, seems irrelevant.

I have been on the internet buying/selling stuff for over 15 years. Bought stuff from the 4 corners of the earth using various bank account numbers, credit cards, debit cards, personal checks, paypal and never had an issue.
Would you rather send a personal check to pay for something (it has ALL the information on it) which can be counterfeited using a common printer. Or send and receive payments on an automated system where the buyer or seller only has an email addy? Really dude, think about it. There are much easier ways to steal from you than by asking for your paypal info. And even a reasonably strong password is very hard to crack.

That said, I think the first step to any "theft" from Paypal would be your addy.
They won't get anything without your addy.
So I would STRONGLY suggest, you be careful who you give it to.
I gave mine to at least 1 person I should not have, and started thinking about how often I give it to people I do not know.
It was a "suspicious" encounter, and I should not have fallen for it, but I did.
Not to mention I received an email recently from Paypal "you just received a payment", from 1 year ago.
No money received, but it was from Paypal.
I may just be alittle too "gullible" in giving it out in good faith.
When you cannot receive a reply, or any contact from that person, it makes one wonder why they wanted it in the first place.

I buy stuff all over the internet with paypal so I'm betting atleast 100+ businesses have my addy and I'm sure any one of their employee's can have access to it. I'd rather them have my paypal addy (which is the same as my regular email addy) than a bank account and routing number. A bank account and routing number don't need a password to be used against you. In fact I will look for another vendor if they don't accept paypal. It's so much simpler to use than a CC or bank account number.
That's all I'm saying is paypal is more secure than most other forms of payment. Hell anyone can get you email addy. You do realize when YOU pay for something with paypal that the other party now has your paypal addy, to do with whatever they want?

Exactly. An email address (pp addy as you call it), is much less harmful than having access to ACTUAL personal information that could be compromised.
Did you read my PM's pepster? Your interpretation of this risk assessment is low and will not compromise your security by people knowing it. My advice, use an email address specifically for paypal business other than your personal address if that helps. -
