The thing about repeated concussions is we don't know how the damage affects judgement, personality, motor functioning, etc. It may affect brain chemistry, which could bring on bouts of clinical depression.

Until recently players were looked at as woosies if they didn't shake off big hits and get back in the game. I think suicide is a terrible act, as it hurts so many that are left behind. But I'm not going to be so quick to judge this guy due to all the unknowns.

I heard that he shot himself in the chest, most likely so his brain would be undamaged for research. Dave Duerson apparently did the same thing. Imagine what hell these guys must have been going through to think suicide was the best option.

    RIP, Junior Seau .

IMO, the fact he played in an extremely violent sport would seem to demonstrate he wasn't a coward.

Dekuda mentioned how Dave Duerson shot himself in the chest so his brain could be studied.
Is suicide ever "right" ? No.
But, IMO, Duerson couldn't take whatever absolute hell he was enduring anymore. I can only imagine how bad it must have been.
So was he "wrong" to commit suicide ? Yes.
Did he display enormous courage in making sure his brain could be studied afterward so others could possibly be spared his hell ?
    IMO, yes.

IMO, the same situation existed with Junior Seau .

Gotta disagree BBL, are you saying that suicide is never "right" ? Or just in these 2 situations ?

Duerson, as you said, probably couldn't take the hell he was living in anymore. Or, couldn't take the burden or pain he was inflickting on those he loved dearly. But I'll defend his right to end his life if he so chooses. The worth one puts on their own life is not up to someone else to decide, even though the resulting consequences can have a negative impact on those they love.
