has anyone heard or gotten to use a pioneer pd-d6mk2-k? I have a denon 2190 right now on one system but, i would like another sacd player for my livingroom system. I am tossing between the pioneer pd-d6mk2-k sacd or Marantz SA-8100. I have also been considerering the Sony SCD-C2000ES that is for sale here in the form. All have good reviews but, without being able to hear them all side by side, I have to rely on everyone elses expierences.

What I am looking for is crisp non fatiguing highs, a solid clean mid. I do like the denon 2190 I have for the $ but, the living room system is quite a bit more revealing than the den system so, it needs to sound better than the denon.

The pioneer d6 is a newer unit that is not a universal player, sacd and cd. It uses Twin Burr-Brown, but i think so does the denon so it makes me wonder how much of a difference am I going to hear.

The marantz 8003 uses ?Cirrus Logic digital-to-analog converter. I am not sure if the Marantz does HDCD though. i dont think the 8001 does.

On a side note, the pioneer pd-d9mk2 looks good and it uses Twin Wolfson but, its a little out of my range. I am trying to keep in the 500-600$ range if possible.

    Ernie,
I'll assume you meant the Marantz 8001 (not 8100) although you also mentioned the 8003. Either way, the Marantz might be a step up, but the other models mentioned (D6/C2000) would likely be a lateral move. The Pioneer D6 has mixed reviews and is not as nearly well built as the D9 (which I also have). The Sony C2000 is basically a repackaged SCD-CE775 with a heavier case and better warranty. It is definitely not a step up from the Denon.

Although they are pretty hard to find, the original Pioneer PD-D9 is well worth the money on the used market (usually under $500). FYI: The newer Mk2 versions are largely cosmetic differences. Internal circuit design is identical (although some parts may have been given slight upgrades, nothing significant though) between the Mk1 and Mk2 versions. Pioneer got very greedy with the Mk2 units and increased prices across the board by $500 or so.

EDIT: There is one on Agon right now, don't know if still available, but worth checking.

Look close, same seller, he made a mistake in the titles (called it SX-A9 CD, but he was confused with the PD-D9). Agon doesn't allow you to change the title (it would be easy for people to sell multiple items by changing title). Just ask him if its still avail.

Actually, the proper name for the original is just PD-D9 or PD-D9-J. There is no DJ9. The front of the player just says D9 which is what I like to call it :)

looking on pioneers site, it went up more than 500 try 1000! the old msrp on Pioneer's web site for the 9 J is Price: $579.00 price on the mkII is 1500. so how the heck are the people selling the original one for close to what new was on it WOW.

Just looking up reviews though the 9 does have a lot of solid reviews.

    Ernie,
That price you are seeing for the original D9 was a closeout price direct from Pioneer. The D9 was originally priced at $999. At some point, I expect to see the D9mk2 being drastically reduced. I don't think Pioneer is selling many at that price. People can sell them used for $500 because they are relatively rare and sought after.

I spent some time with the unit John has above (the older "9") and, let me tell you, it's a wonderful player. Exactly what you are looking for. Don't know how it compares to the newer model, though.

But I wouldn't hesitate a second in buying the older unit at that price! It puts up an almost "holographic" sound field that is enveloping!
