I see what you mean about Polk Audio, They answer their own phones. Good thing I an a Polk Club member Wyoming gets sales tax on this purchase with free shipping I still came out ahead $100.80 for the two drivers.

The only difference is the two connection points where the two wires go down to voice coil are not visible from the front

I would find a good used one for a replacement. I think you will notice the difference in them with one new one mixed in with all the old ones.

more words when it comes to cutting the rubber from around the screw holes. be careful! when i did mine it actually pulled the surround off. seems like weak glue. i ended up having to crazy glue them back together.

I found Polk uses a silicone rubber for the surrounds, very nice. My solder pencil was not hot enough to even touch the stuff. I noted the originals the have cut outs where the mounting hole are in the spider I could do this with an X acto knife but I am not going anywhere near the speaker cone with one. What I did is use a larger head screw to mount the speakers they tighted down nicely and did not move the rubber at all.

The sound: Sharper ears then I have mgiht be able to tell the difference but I sure can't. I mounted both of the new drivers in the 10B that had the roasted units. I pulled up "The seduction of Claude Debussy" (1999) performed by The Art of Noise and played track # 4 "On Being Blue"" It starts with very deep zoom bass. I like this track for testing woofers as you hear both sides trying to reproduce this deeply decending glissando at the same time it gets so deep it actually sets up a vibration in the room you can actually feel. Listening to this I could not tell the difference between the new and the old.

That's an excellent track as well as an excellent cd. Don't hear a lot of talk about "The Art of Noise". Not a common band (of you could call them that) that gets discussed.

"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. I have their entire discography, and you are correct you really can't call them a band. The Seduction of Claude Debussy is my absolute favorite. It is a great recording to test speakers with. Orchestral, Operatic, hip-hop, ambient, soft jazz, it is all there.

What is interesting is the 1st Onkyo TX-NR709 I received from Crutchfield failed while I was listening to Seduction when "On Being Blue" started the right channel let loose and destoyed the Woofer on the right hand Warfedale W35. It sounded like a jackhammer just before it died, and the protection in the Onkyo shut everything down.

Amazon has the CD, They are very proud of the price for a new CD, but they do have used ones for mucho cheaper.

I am am at home listening to Seduction as I type, and the track I was thinking of is track #3 DREAMING IN COLOUR, not track #4 I continue to be astonished at just how good these Monitor 10B's sound.

Listening this it dawns on me just how much like Ken Nordine's "Word Jazz" parts of Seduction are

Monitor 10Bs are great speakers. Monitor 10Bs with SDA crossovers (like mine) are amazing speakers!!

I'm going t be looking for the CD suggested.

I never get tired of listening to "Seduction". I have all 39 releases of Art of Noise and while there are a number of others that are very good The Seduction of Claude Debussy is the best.
