Bought several items at a yard sale this weekend. One of them was a Yamaha CX 1000u preamp/processor.
I hooked it up to see of it worked ok with thoughts of throwing it on craigslist or ebay. Well my my, it sounded really
nice. I have been listening to it in place of my Peachtree Decco and am impressed. Does anyone know what this thing cost in 1988 when it was new? Does it have a reputation for being a quality piece? What does the "source direct"
button actually do? Why does it seem so much louder than my Peachtree? What would have been the matching amp in this series? Thanks for any information. Chuck

I paid $1000 for mine in 1988. Was a fantastic piece. Right channel went out 1&1/2 years ago. Some things needed resoldering inside. Cost $125. Sold it on eBay for $600 about 6 months later ( it was still minty-known provenance-16 bidders). There is a demand for this piece if in good condition. Thanks for the info! Gonna listen to this Yamaha for a while; might just have to sell my Peachtree and keep the yamaha.
Got the Yamaha CX 1000u; Velodyne CT120 sub; Klipsch KSC C1 center; and a Denon AVR 4800 all for $100.
Pending sale locally Tuesday-Klipsch center channel for $75.
If that sale goes through, I will have $25 invested. The Yamaha and Velodyne work perfectly.
The Denon AVR 4800 powers up and all lights, on screen display, remote work fine. I just cannot get any sound out of it yet.
Gonna download the manual and spend some time with it this week. Any ideas? -
Hi, What is the source direct button for? How does it effect the sound? Thanks for any input. Chuck

The matching amp to your Yamaha preamp is the MX1000u. I have the similar MX1000/CX1000 combination driving a pair of KEF 104.2 speakers. Overall, nice sounding gear.

Thanks for info! Gonna compare back and forth with decco and yamaha for a while. Right now the yamaha is ahead.
