Looking at getting one of these 3 AVR's from Accessories4less. Need some thoughts from folks that own one of them as to which might be better.

Of the three the Marantz is more expensive, I dont know if I get as much as with the Onkyo models.

I dont plan on using Airplay, need 7.2 pre-outs, a bunch of HDMI's, and a s-video connector for my laserdisc player would be nice (or I could use regular composite) with upscaling......

Would love to be able to run 2 LSi 7's or 9's off the AVR for heights or wides. The rest of the speakers will be run off a dedicated amp...

I cant really see whats different between the 709 and 809 either......

Its late so this might not be my most "coherent" post, but looking for some thoughts.....

I dont like Pio's MCAAC EQ...... that and it would be hard to find one for around 600 bucks with pre-outs if I remember correctly.......

The new onkyo's are coming out very soon or are out. The 818 has MultEQ XT32, which is a large step up from the regular XT. Should give amazing results.

But coming from 2EQ, and paying 600 more for the 818 over the 809 isnt worth it for me IMHO...

Get the 809. Reading great deals to be had on the 809. It's a huge upgrade over the 709. 818 is just coming out so only another year from now will prices come down for that.

    Bump, any more thoughts?

The wife likes the faceplate of the 6006 and the 809 with the 6006 winning out. I am leaning toward the Marantz since its going to have a 2 year factory warranty over the Onkyo's 1. Price difference once you add in shipping is like 100 bucks.

Still not 100% sure. Any more thoughts would be appreciated...

$50 bucks or so will get you a 5 year extended warenty through accessories 4 less. That is better than new if they have a descent warrenty.

A lot of the differences between the 709 and 809 are in the video side of the avr.
    AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808
    Amplifier: Carver A-753x 250 watts x 3

    Rear: FXI A4
    Sub: Polk DSW Pro 660wi

Good to know.... like I said the Marantz may win out as I have read a couple places the NRX09 series had lots of issue at the end of its production run, plus my wife likes it more.......

    Still on the fence...

Well, the marantz does not seem to be rated for 4ohm loads, so that might be out of the question:
    From the getting started guide:

"Use speakers with the speaker impedances shown below.
    Speaker terminals - Speaker impedance

    FRONT A / FRONT B - 6 – 8 Ω

    FRONT A + B - 8 Ω

    CENTER/SURROUND /SURR. BACK / AMP ASSIGN - 6 – 8 Ω"
    Living Room 7.1 HT Rig:

    M70 | CS2 | M60 | Atrium5 - Surr. | SUB - Emotiva ULTRA12 + Tara Labs sub cable | Pioneer Elite VSX-52 | Parasound HCAs 1000A | Sony BDP-S790 | Belkin PureAV PF60 | MIT Exp2 Wires

    Bedroom 5.0 HT Rig (Music/Movies/Gaming) :

    LSi9 | LsiC | Lsi/fx | Marantz SR7002 | NAD T955 | Sony BDP-S360 | Belkin PureAV PF30 | AQ Blue Racer II ICs & AQ Type 4 wires | PS3

You know what, I should have read your post a bit more carefully. I actually don't own either of the models. I thought I read what the opinions of the models listed were as far as preference.

Marantz has always been a solid name. I hear and read more negative verbiage about Onkyo then I do good. That's not to say Onkyo is a bad company. I just never really see any bad press about the Marantz. I should have just not replied initially. Sorry.

I own the 6005 and owned the 708 just prior. I prefer the marantz sound although it was close. I thought the Onkyo sounded very warm, perhaps a touch too much so. I think the marantz is more neutral and with nice detail for an AVR. Everything else is more nitpicking, save for one: the volume gradations of the Onkyo. It took forever to get the volume up or down using the remote. I've owned many AVRs over the years and never experienced that before. It was a very real, every day annoyance. Not sure if that trait continues with the current models being considered.

    Two Channel Setup:

    Speakers: Wharfedale Opus 2-3
    Integrated Amp: Krell S-300i
    DAC: Arcam irDac
    Source: iMac
    Remote Control: iPad Mini

    3.2 Home Theater Setup:

    Fronts: Klipsch RP-160M
    Center: Klipsch RP-160M
    Subwoofer: SVS PB12NSD (X 2)
    AVR: Yamaha Aventage RX-A2030
    Blu Ray: Sony BDP-S790
    TV Source: DirecTV Genie

No worries mate. I too like the "Marantz" name, but trying to get champagne with a beer budget right now. My wife decided we REALLY needed a new Plasma to replace my DLP so my budgetting has moved around a bit.

Probably looking at the 709 as I can get it for 455 shipped to my door. It gives me 7.1 pre outs (I already have), 7 HDMI in's (I have 4), 2 outs (have 1), and MultiEQ XT (I have 2EQ).

My ONLY concern is that I would like to be able to run a set of LSi 7's as heights in the future, if possible. Not sure thats a good idea on the 709, but if I dont get that I wont complain.

Plus by cutting some here I might be able to squeeze in a Oppo 93 to replace our failing blu-ray player.....

And that would be a nice tri-fecta: 55" Plasma 3D TV, MultiEQ XT, and an Oppo.......

It's too bad you don't favor Pioneer. I've tossed around the idea to sell my Elite VSX-23. Has everything you need except an extra HDMI input. The MCACC software is solid dude. Listen to nooshinjohn. :p

Edit: And if your wife wants a new TV, tell her to go buy it. You want audio goodies!

LOL... well I need at least 5 (so I can have one free for use with the computer).....

I will let her get the TV as we do kinda need a better one so I still kinda win...... plus with the extra funds from selling the TV and AVR I will hopefully drop on an Oppo....

Actually scrap that. The VSX-23 has 5 inputs/2 outputs. My mind is still in weekend mode I guess.
