Nice receiver, nasty speakers.

Ugly speakers, lol... they should work great in the garage. I have it hooked up to my sda 2b's sounds wonderful, needs a good cleaning thoughHello Kitty am/fm CD player

They'll make lots of noise fo' sho'.

Very kool receiver. You might want to remove that tray from the top though for some ventilation. The speaker take me back to my friend's trailer. Those things could shake the walls.Stan

Nice score. No, terrific score! 15 bucks? Are you kidding? And the lights even work! Must be cerca early '80s because it has that digital FM display but an analog tuner like Pioneers of that era!
Don't know the speakers. But as said, should do for the garage!
Enjoy!

circa very late 1970s or very early '80s. It came after the original "G" series of receivers but is still pretty... shall we say... vintage. There used to be a wonderful resource online for classic Sansui hardware called [duh] the Classic Sansui Pages - www.classicsansui.net was the URL (IIRC)- but it's gone and not likely to be resurrected last I saw.
http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=411387
There's a tiny bit of info at www.sansui.us but the signal to noise ratio is poor and the scope of content's nothing like the erstwhile Classic Sansui site.
The first generation of "G" Sansuis came ca. 1978 - those I have a brochure for... but not the G8700DB and its kin :-(
-
Pardon my Spanish "cerca" to your Latin "circa". I remember seeing some of those pages when I was searching for some info on a 5000A I used to own (not a bad one at that). Smaller, but heavy, about 55 watts per side.

heh - knowing that you are an academic, I didn't want to correct you (wisely, as it turned out - as I don't know squat from Spanish!), but I kinda wanted to give you a nudge ;-)
There's a 5000A in the basement (which I always forget about when I say the only Sansui in the house is a TU-717). It hailed, of course, from my favorite local vintage goods emporium; it works but I've never determined if it had the requisite circuit upgrades so I am kind of loath to use it... -
You'll never find that kind of pricing here in the Pac NW as the Goodwill locations are better known as "Good Profit".Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))

$15? Wow. Nice find. Love the retro look. Congrats.

Great score !
But I hate you. If that had been a little earlier vintage Sansui (early to mid 70's) I'd hate you and have to put you on the list of "People In Need of a Sound Thrashing".
May not be exactly fair, to be honest, but the absolute do-do that shows up at our local Goodwill stores is .... do-do. And frustrating. There's some hope at the Salvation Army outlet, but in talking to those folks, I'm tired of the "Oh, you should have been here last week !" speech.
And we are talking Sansui gear here, which is acknowledged by all Right-Thinking-People as the nicest stuff around. So, I'll hate you, but in a good way.
Nice find ! :biggrin:Sal Palooza -
Some of you might enjoy this page from a very interesting website - this particular page is pure Sansui "G" ****... absolutely no redeeming social value save as eye candy...

Certainly a monster class receiver, but you're right, it looks like a Japanese Transformer (industrial class design) lol.

NOT good. you may want to remove that. instead of a fan installed. they put opening to keep it cool as it heats up. i may be wrong. but yes. you may wanna move that. or better yet. send me the reciever. lol. enjoy it at a great price for a nice unit..
