a-b test w/ new/old speaker selector

The Niles 6 zn selector came and of course was very easy to set up.Now I have it running from my Adcom 555 and have the Bose 601s and Infinitys going through the selector. Doing an A-B test side by side the Bose 601s are clearly the superior speaker. In depth of bass throatyness, if that word exsists,clarity and not in your face and can handle the Adcom w/ ease.The Infinity SM112s are tinny compared and both speakers, running together was not all that spectacular.If I had to ditch a pair it would be the Infintys.So as I said in a previous post for $20 and a refoam kit for $30 a little tlc I resurrected a decent set of speakers.I thought about what some of you guys said that I'm not satisfied w/ my gear, well I kind of reconsidered that statement and I'll just call it variety for now.

The Infinity "SM" series are poorly constructed and rather terrible sounding loudspeakers relative to my taste - the reported outcome would be what I'd expect.
That said, and in fairness, it's very important to match levels, particularly when A/B comparing loudspeakers. The ear tends to prefer the louder of two loudspeakers. Of course, in the present case, the Infinities would be expected to be louder (i.e., more sensitive) in the absence of any level-matching... so, as they say:

all generalizations are false, including this one

mhardy,I fully understand what your saying and I did adjust the pre because the Infinitys were so bright compared to the 601s.Thanks for the advice...
