SDA2 Replacement Parts

I received a pair of SDA2 speakers a couple of years of ago. Considering there age I worry about the components being tired out. I'm not sure how to figure out what replacements are compatible (i.e. new tweeters etc). Also is installation rather simple. By that I mean I would I be able to simply solder the connections to the new components and be good to go? I appreciate the read and comments!

If you have a picture or can describe them very well it will help us help you.Political Correctness'.........defined

As F1nut said, it would be very helpful to know exactly what SDA2 speakers you have (SDA2/A/B) if you want specifics. All are upgradeable, and yes it essentially comes down to de-soldering/removing old components and soldering in new ones - plus probably replacing tweeters. There are other optional upgrades like rings, interconnects, spikes, etc. but it all starts with what model you have. Doing a forum search on "SDA2 XO" should get you started.Sony 60'' SXRD 1080p

I'm away at school for a few more weeks but I found a picture in another thread:

These are exactly what mine look like so that would make mine SDA2-B. As suggested I think tweeters is probably where I will start. From what I read on here people seem to recommend the rd0-194. Can I get these through Polk or do I need to find them through a dealer? -
You can get them directly from Polk. Call them, (number up above) and tell them you're a CP member to get a discount.

^ thanks. Also I was curious and can't seem to find what wattage the SDA-2B are rated for at 8 omhs?

I am hardly a font of Polk knowledge compared to many others around here, but I do happen to have some info on the 2B in a copy of an old Polk brochure I ran across on the web - although the brochure says "Rec. Amplification", which I assume to mean 'recommended', which isn't a 'maximum':
Rec. Amplification 30-350 Watts/ch. 'Nominal impedance' is 6 ohms. Efficiency: 89.7 db. -
So would those wpc numbers be lower with a higher impedance? My receiver puts out 2ch. at 8ohms.

I should say my the wpc of my receiver are listed for 8 ohms -
You should consider doing the TL upgrade to your 2B's. You might also want to consider using something other than a receiver.Political Correctness'.........defined

You need to make sure your receiver will tolerate a load less than 8 ohms. But in general, yes -- most amps will deliver more power to a lower impedance load. But they must also be capable of delivering the higher currents that will be drawn by that lower impedance load. Some receivers are not.
If the manufacturer specifies that you shouldn't connect a speaker with an impedance less than 8 ohms, then you probably shouldn't! -
What receiver do you have? Some can do more than they list in the standard specs.

I definitely will be upgrading to some sort of power amp but can't at the moment. Can I get the parts for a TL upgrade through Polk (trying to get an idea of cost). If the manufacturer specifies that you shouldn't connect a speaker with an impedance less than 8 ohms, then you probably shouldn't!
The manufacturer only lists 8ohm impedance wattage, I assume since this tends to be the most common for speakers. They don’t mention any warnings about connecting anything with less and I haven’t had any issues with my receiver/speaker combo. What receiver do you have? Sony STR K750P nothing special but I have been working on a college budget, but finishing in a few weeks so hopefully I will be able to upgrade my setup soon. -

That's because it isn't rated for anything else. That said, you can use it to power your 2B's, just don't expect much and don't crank it.Political Correctness'.........defined

Looks like the back of the receiver specifies a load of 8-16 ohms. That implies that they don't 'officially' support lower impedance loads. -

I haven't had any over heating or clipping on part of my receiver. Eventually I'm going to ditch the receiver for a power amp to go along with my Rotel RC-1070. I'll definitely get something more 6ohm friendly at that point in time -
Like F1nut said, it'll probably be fine as long as you don't overdo it. Just something to be aware of.
Enjoy the 2Bs! Duh - of course you will! -

Appreciate you both answering my questions!
