I have a chance to get a new psw111 for $120, which is an amazing deal for that subwoofer, but I also have a chance to get the vx-11 for $160 new... I went and listened to them both, and while the place was not an ideal place for critical listening, I got the following impressions: the PSW is a very musical sub with tight punchy bass, it just doesnt get as low as the vx.. The vx is not quite as tight as the PSW, but it packs a lot more punch and depth, going 5hz lower in its range. I am very partial to Polk products, but it seems like the velodyne might have a slight edge in this case. I'll be using it about 60% music, 20% movies and 20% gaming. So the two chsnnel music is a little more important to me, but I was wondering which one you all would recommend? Thanks in advance!

What speakers are you pairing with this?

I have owned dual VX-10's (previous revision, same specs) and recently downsized to one VX-10 for my 2 channel desktop setup. I found that I was not able to properly bland this small sub well with my large mains.

I would say these subs are more musical and HT second. For an entry level sub, you'll be hard pressed to surpass a Velodyne at that price for the performance you'll get.

Edit: What I also enjoy about this model is the speaker level in/outputs on the plate amp. It incorporates a high-pass filter on the output to feed 80hz and up to your speakers. Works great since I pair it with small bookshelves. Your setup may differ.

I'm pairing them with Monitor 40's in the front and some OWM3 in the rear, along with a CS1 center.

They will blend well with a 80-100hz crossover. How big is the area? I think you'll be satisfied for the money.

I pretty much agree with what's been said here. I had the VX-10, and it really is surprisingly musical and well-controlled for the price. In fact, I don't think you'd really do better in that department unless you plan on spending quite a bit more coin. As for home theater, it is okay, but can't hit as deep or loud as other subs. For me, it wasn't really enough in that regard, but that's just me.

I also agree that it probably wouldn't be good to match with larger floorstanders since it may not hit much deeper (if at all).

All that said, it really is a very good sub for the price. You don't even have to be an audio enthusiast to appreciate it. Case in point: my mother. She previously had a Sony 12" sub in her system, but constantly complained about how boomy and lousy the bass sounded. Now, this is from someone who doesn't really care about sound quality, so that says a lot about the Sony sub if she complained. At any rate, I put the VX-10 in her system after I upgraded, and she is now happy. She no longer complains about the sound quality of the bass, which is good for me. Plus, it seems to hit just as deep and nearly as loud as the larger Sony sub anyway.
