I am looking at specs of 70-RT In-ceiling speakers in Polk Audio site. The mounting depth for 70-RT is about 8 inches where as some of the older models like RTi need only around 2 to 3 inches for mounting depth in the ceiling.
Say i am going with sheet rock ceiling, will i be able to install this speaker in the ceiling?

Hello KV,
Thanks for posting on Polk's forum. The specifications for the depth are assuming the ceiling material is 1/2" thick and the depth needed is 7 7/8" to whatever is making up the next layer. Most of the time there is much more available depth when working in ceiling than in a wall. Is this being used in a first floor room?
Regards, Ken -

No.I am planning this in Basement. I have a 8 foot ceiling except the place where my ducts are located which is around 7 Feet. I was just concerned when i saw depth needed for older models was only about 2 to 3 inches. -
Spoke to my basement contractor. He basically said - Measure the disatnce between joist and plywood in the ceiling. If that distance is more than 7.75 inches, then we should be good.
