Which one? Denon 3803 or 4802R?

I'm sitting here debating it like something else. Would the 4802R be overkill for my system:

Rti70's
CSi40
FXi30's
Rti38's
PSW404
?

I really like the 3803 and have had my eye on it for weeks.. but the 4802R can be had for a few bucks more and is a freakin THX Ultra2 cert and more juice to boot.

Now if i go with the 3803 i would buy the Denon 2200DVD with it.. but if i go with the 4802R i'd have to get that alone.

Get the most out of your hard earned money. The 3803 is very nice. Go with that one IMO.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I concur with dorokusai. The 4802 r will have a little more power, but that's it. The 3803 arguably actually has a better pre/pro section in it, and you could always add an amp if need be, but I doubt you would have to with your present speakers, especially when running them small or high passed.

Ok guys.. Thanks. I guess i was livin in a pipe dream. 3803 will do nicely as long as i dont ever upgrade to some LSi speakers which with my wife.. would never happen anyways..

    Thanks

I was also stuck between these 2 receivers but after comparing the specs at www.denon.com I found that 3803 beats 4802R in DAC section and in price.

    http://www.usa.denon.com/catalog/pdfs/AVR%20Web%20Comparison%20Chart%204_19_03.pdf

    3803 uses 16 24/192kHz Burr-Brown DACs same as 5803. 4802R uses 16 24/96kHz Analog Devices DACs same as 2803. Remember 24/192kHz is superior to 24/96kHz.

4802R has better power supply "Torroidal Transformer" and Dual 32bit DSPs. THX Ultra 2 logo & THX tricks (THX has nothing to do with sound quality) Detachable IC power cord and 20w/7 more power than 3803 and some minor feature differences.

4802R will take 4 ohm load if you're driving LSi Series at large setting but since RTi line is 8 ohm 3803 is more than enough plus if you're running them at small setting.

I would say get Denon 3803 'cause it will give you the same sound of 5803 which is twice the price of 4802R, since both 5803 & 3803 uses 16 24/192kHz Burr-Brown DACs 3803 is a brainer.

Remember you can always buy powerful amp and beat both 4802R & 5803 by using 3803 as a pre/pro!

Save your money and get 3803 and later spend in amp if you need more power.

I've compared every single receiver to 3803 and it still wins when price is matched.

I'm buying 3803 as soon as I save some money for it!

You can still get a 3803 from www.6ave.com for $688.06. What you need to do is order a 3802. They are out of stock so they will send you a 3803 for the price of a 3802. I bought one about 3-4 weeks ago. I would maybe call first to make sure but a bunch of other members did the same thing. Good luck, the 3803 is a great unit!

Oh I'm sorry, I was wondering why they left that price up for so long. You could wait it out, call once a week maybe they will sell out of the 3802 again at some point. Or call and ask for a manager and **** up a storm. I don't know where this would get you but it couldn't hurt!

Just call them up and flat out say that you saw on the Polk forum that they are substituting the 3803 for the 3802 for the same price, and was that in fact true. I did, and it worked. I got the 3803 for the 3802's price, without sweating out which one it would be.

I started thinking about Denon AVR-3803 by reading numerous posts and am now consufed ;)

I recently got HK AVR-525 and like it very much. I have never had a chance to check Denon 3803 with my setup and seems like a very nice machine. Would anyone help me decide if if would be better to replace my current receiver with new HK 630 or get Denon AVR-3803. I'm sure the price for the new HK is going to be much higher then 6ave.com Denon's. I would probably want to change the HK DVD25 as well, but do not know what Denon DVD would be comparable.

    My current setup is:

    Rti70's
    CSi30
    PWR450
    FXi30
    Infocus X1 PJ

I'm going to upgrade my speakers to new Pol'ks as soon as they become available at good price :)

Any opinions on what should I do?

    Thanks!

Yes, and that is to simply keep what you've got. The 3803 has a better pre/pro section in it for movies than your present HK, but the 525 has a better amp section and is more musical than the Denon. Do not know much about the newer HK model you mentioned, but the 3803 would not be a signifigant upgrade on what you already have. Just more of a pointless side step lateral move than anything.

Thanks! I think what I'm going to do but just upgrade to current models. Anyone up for AVR525 (still has plastic wrap on the front - over month old :))?

If you wanted to trade the HK 525 for a Denon 3802, I could hook you up.

Naah. I read some more about the new HK630 and will stick to HK :)

I would probably sell the HK for about $600. Like I said, month or so old and still has plastic cover on the front (as well as the DVD). Used maybe full 2 days :)
