It uses the standard 1/2 mount system and the ADC style headshell. Shure 97xE (new) $69up - Sumiko Pearl (New) $125 - Audio-Technica 440MLa (New) $169up - Audio-Technica AT-7V (New) $129up - Grado Gold1 (New) $220.
Your ears your choice. You can go vintage with ShureV15 series, ADC series, or Empire series. All work great with the 1057f. I have twin 1057F's and use all these models mentioned here.
You can buy a basic model like the Shure 97xE and supercharge it with a Jico SAS stylus ...again your choice.

p.s. If you upgrade the headshell wire be sure the wires are long enough as so many of the newer wire choices are short. I mean too short to work with the ADC style headshell. Many of the newer wires seem to be cut for the Audio-Technica style 'S' arms which can run straight from headshell to cartridge. The ADC style normally is offset so the wire runs ahead BUT needs to come back and around the cartridge body to be able to align with the cartridge pins. -
Denon cartridges are also favored.Stan

BTW the 1055F (gold-tone) and 1057F (standard silver color) are very nearly the units with the 1057F only slightly quieter. I don't know anyone that uses a Denon cartridge but the low-cost Denon DL-110 ranges $130 - $160 new. It's good but tracts at around the 2 grams. I like to stay at .75 to 1.5 weight myself. -

Correction: 1057F is gold-toned and the 1055F is a more standard silver colored for the external metal parts.
