Guess what my daughter learned...

She learned that if she goes up to Daddy's APC H-15 and presses the center button, it will shut down the whole HT system... :frown:

She now thinks it's a game.

I'm tempted to move the APC till she gets older (she is almost 17months old now), but I know that will not teach anything about how to respect what we tell her. So I think it's just going to be a PIA till we get on the same page. That could be awhile, she is as stubborn as I am.

Right there with you on this one... Our 18 month old turns on the receiver, then off, back on, etc etc. Tried covering it with something to block the buttons, figured out how to move that. Rather then make it a bigger game, we just keep an eye on him around it.

As soon as she could move she made a B-Line for the receiver... She LOVED the spinny knobs. That went on for about 2 months and she has since ignored the HT system.

But when she pressed that button on the H-15, her face lit up like an X-Mass tree...

I remember years ago a buddy of mines' daughter (2 at the time) smeared banana into all the recessed switches on his Yamaha gear. He spent hours with a toothpick cleaning the equipment..LOL

It usually takes me weeks of intensive study to figure out how to do that with a modern HT system. Just sayin'.

My daughter does that a lot too! She's very curious about her surroundings. I think I'm gonna have to baby-proof around the house to avoid accidents. :/

My equipment has always been situated on a shelves above my TV ;) At least 5' out of the kids' reach. The only issue I've had with my kids is they like to press the bright blue button on the computer tower which puts it into sleep mode! At 3 and 5, they are finally over that.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

lol. Keep your speaker grilles on. If there's anything they enjoy more than turning knobs and switches, it's poking the dust caps on speakers.

When all my kids were little they started doing those things. Discipline worked, but so did moving all the equipment up and out of reach when I wasn't home. Well, the main reason for moving it "up" was for my wife's friends kids, that was a different story...

I only take them off to clean the speakers and try to make sure to do that when my wife takes her out of the house. She came home once while they were still off, sure enough she was going straight for the woofers...

My oldest has gotten both the dust caps/whizzers on my Fonkens. Even better, the drivers are discontinued.

Many moons ago, my daughter thought to stick her PB&J sammy into the VHS player. No comming back from that one.

Since then, no kid, be it mine, grandkids, others kids, are allowed to even touch the remote let alone the gear. It's ok to tell a kid what they can't touch.

Just last week, my 2.5 year old grandson picked up a new 800 buck camcorder and started flinging it around. The wife caught him, took it away and stearnly told him not to touch. The other women present thought the wife was too hard on the kid. She told them in a polite way, that unless they intended to cough up 800 bucks when the camcorder gets broke, to stfu. Thats my girl.

It's been a while since my daughter has been that young. I remember keeping track of her height (growth) when she passed by my front speakers in the living room.

She was pretty well behaved as a toddler though. The only incident I can remember, and it was not a bad one, but rather an "astonishing" one; was when she got a hold of one of my cassette tapes and took two of her crayons, inserted one each into the holes in the cassette and started singing "Happy Birthday" as if the tape was a Birthday cake with two candles in it.

What was astonishing was that she was only 18 months at the time! So look out for the "good" surprises as well!

My little guy will be 11 months this week, all my gear is in a cabinet with two glass doors. You can bet that I will buy something so he cannot get in there. The only thing left out will the dvdp, the PS3 and the speakers. Cross my fingers...

my husband also doesn't want other "kids" to touch or play with our system, but he didn't move it "up". he's always watching them whenever they're around acting to play with them but in reality he's guarding them like a guard dog to keep them out of reach. though i think it's kind of cute. My grandkids have been less of a challenge, as their parents are ACTIVELY engaged at all times, and know that if Grandpa's stereo gets messed up, that's money I have to take out of the inheritance fund...LOL

I have two boys, one 22 months and one 3 months. I recently bought some decent quality audio racks with glass doors so currently everything besides the cable box is out of reach. So far, so good. My main problem, however, is that he likes going behind my LSi15's and messing with the speaker cables (bi-wire/spades). I have em tightened up pretty good, but he still gets them sometimes.

Side note...At my old apartment the cat kept jumping on the tv stand and blocking the view. I bought a nerf gun that I kept by the couch and whenever he would jump up there I would start firing nerf "bullets" at him. It was more funny than effective...

Uh oh, just wait until they figure out the glass doors  My soon-to-be two year old daughter did and I had to take everything out of the thing.

I have another girl on the way, I'm now severely outnumbered!

She wants me to turn on the "colbert report". She loves that show.
