What do you think? I'm going to replace the glass though, This one's a little to big and hangs over the edges about 1.5"

Was that a film reel? What a great idea! IMO the glass you have looks fine.

Hbomb,
Yeah it's a 15" Goldberg Bros 35mm film reel. I want a slighlty smaller overhang on the edges, so I'll get a new piece of glass this week for it.
Polk-a Perv,
**** Theater?!? Dude this is the new century, no need to go to the **** theater anymore...Ain't you ever heard of the World Wide Whoppie!?! -
Very cool end-table. I dig it, and I like the glass as is too. If you get too little overhang, the table will look out of balance (too much reel for the table). Either the size you have or slightly more, or the exact same size as the reel would be the way to go IMO.
I'm not too sure about the color, but that's just cuz it wouldn't go with my stuff. Props to ya for buildin somethin like that.comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
Frank - Very nice, that is a great idea for a small table. I think that the most reel VS table factor is good. You should make the reel look bigger because of the glass, its all perspective. No overhang, IMO.
You have a great setup.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
You should go into production. I think those things would go like crazy on ebay! Everyone wants something with a "reel" in it for their HT.

Thanks guy's! The dark green color was not my first choice. I was thinking of chrome, but I settled on the dark color for a couple of reasons. #1 Chrome would cause some nasty reflections while watching movies, and #2, the base and upright are from a couple of old floor lamps that I had around the house that were already that color.
As for the glass, it's about 1/4 inch thick, tempered, and fairly heavy. A smaller top will be a bit more stable and still look good.
Thanks for all the feedback gentlemen! -
Very cool Frank.
You said you passed on chrome due to reflections, what about the glass top?
Where did you land the reel?
Peace Out~:DIf...

The tables will be cover with remotes, magazines, empty popcorn bags, socks, etc., so they won't be a problem!;)
I got the reels off ebay. -

You could put glass on the bottom and cut holes in the top glass and your beer would slide nicely down in there. If you cupped the holes internally, you could also make little cups for nuts and pretzels and m&ms and.....
Seeing that reel brought back memories. I worked as a projectionist in high school and college and some of the theaters were still using the small reels... the drive-in was actually still using carbon arcs for the light source! zzzziiiiiiiing
