ive been a HKardon user for years. i have a chance to buy a Sansui g4700 for a ok price. it looks and sounds great. i relize its only about 50 watts of power. im trying to break free of HK and go older. if i can pick this up for 150.00 is it worth it. im hoping it will be my foot in the door to older equipement. i relize there probably is no pre-out for amp..or a powered sub out for powered subwoofer. so i may have to buy other equipment to make it work and sound nice trying to stay on budget also..any thoughts. thanx

i wanted something old school. but wasnt sure if this model was any good at all. i figured id find a set of speakers that produced enough bass so i dont need a subwoofer. just for a spare bedroom upstairs. i figured 150.00 wouldnt break the bank. i can pick up some speakers for a deal later. as far as pre out for amp. it will not be used for that anyways....if there isnt enough bass ,i can add a speakerwire to powered sub then to speaker set up. i have a old powered sub that would work...rather not though. but biggest question are the sansui g4700 at all good or dont waist my money recievers. looks vintage. any info is helpful. thanx..

Anytime you buy vintage you have to be prepared to sink some coin into it as age takes its toll on electronics as well as everything else. If you can't do that, then find a newer receiver from craigslist. Plenty of other brands to look at too that are newer and should last at least a few more years without having to throw coin at it. I'm sure the sansui is fine, but a newer garage sale find even for 50 bucks may be a better bet.HT SYSTEM-

$50 or much less. -
The earlier Sansuis are rather more desirable.

hey. those are beautiful........i ended up buying something else. i bought a very nice Marantz 2230 reciever..in original 1972 box with original manuel. from original owner for 100.00 i am happy with that. for now. ive got 4 systems now. this will get me by for now. i needed to have vintage. i hooked them to marantz sp1250 speakers. temporary till i can get better speakers for the reciever. it works flawless. i cleaned the inside with air spray. lubed the dials. i would like to get it professionally cleaned by someone who knows more. but for 100.00 the bass is unbelievable. nice 30 watt reciever. hooked a cd player to it. tuner indicator works perfect. lights work perfect. sound is clean. no static when volume is adjusted. im a happy guy tonight. thank youall for help. sorry sansui. maybe next project...

wow. they are so so beautiful. what happened to recievers. i had to look in awe,,,,again. the 9090DB is so sweeeeeeettttttt..
-
Congrats. The 2230 is supposed to be a favorite for many into Marantz receivers, supposedly a tad warmer and more musical than some of the slightly higher powered models (or not depending on who you read?). There are certainly Marantz fanboys (some even on this site).
At the very least you have a classic vintage piece from the Marantz line. I have a 2265 that just has a certain "something" when I power my Polk Monitor 10As with it (in fact there's a suggestion for you--pick up some classic Polk Monitors for that 2230 if you can find some!
Enjoy.

im going to guess. its 65 watts. that must crank. the guy said the last numbers were the watt numbers. i hope thats right. but if this is 30 then your could be 65 watts. oh my. maybe a stupid question. ive asked many times before. but can a amp be hooked to this. just a yes or no question. also. whats a good speaker to use on these. not the sda2b's because not enough watts. correct..

-
how does that jolida pair up with the sda speakers..ive never seen one. i took notes on that last night. but im going to google that tonight. are you happy with it....cnh.....what price range is that around. is that a newer reciever. got tons of questions. thanx..

i will check on the monitors. a friend had some marantz sp1250 and i got them for 30.00 because they needed repairs. i got a replacement from someone else i know to make them useable until i can get something better. i was very surprised at the volume level of 30 watts. with just 2 speakers. perfect start into older system........
-
The NAD is a 50 watt x 2 integrated amp that powers the LSi-7 bookshelves in a separate system.
The Jolida is an integrated tube amp hooked directly to the SDA-2Bs...also around 50 watts x 2 but probably the equivalent or a bit more into 4 ohms. Powering something with tubes is a little different than using the same wattage in a solid state amp so the Jolida does an excellent job with the SDAs.
And yes! You are right, the 2230 is a 30 watter x 2 and in all Marantz 22XX series, the XX represents the watts per side. So the 2265 is 65 watts x 2.

If you're wanting vintage gear, there's a Pioneer SX-1010 in the FM.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

+1, The SX-1010 is a wonderful piece. Maybe the "best" sounding of the early Pioneer Monster class. An it bears a resemblance to the era of Sansui gear mhardy has rendered for us above-very similar aesthetics.

today i found on craigslist a pair of mirage om10 mint with original box and manuel for 150.00 i bought them. they gotta be better than the marantz sp1250 speakers which didnt sound to bad. the mirages are like 4 ft tall all black cloth. cap on top. rated at 30-200 watts. so i dont think i did too bad there. this will get me by till i get the vintage reciever of my dreams and match it up with a great pair of speakers for that reciever. we have too much gear now. so when wife gets home if she doesnt kill me i will be back on tomorrow. i think shes going to ban me from craigs list. and i do get tired of looking on there also..

-
didnt sound too good. i may put the klipsch klf10's on the marantz....put the mirages on the HT in the livingroom with the paradigms as rears. that may be my best bet..
-
Klipsch-horns will probably like the 2230. They're pretty efficient, aren't they?

i had them hooked to a HKavr45 @ 65watts and they will blow your socks off on stereo mode. the HK we bought in 1998 new has bad reviews. it has worked flawless since it came out of box. im thinking people didnt spend time learning how to use it. ive owned many of HK units. but this was my first and it will stay with me till it dies or i do. perfect HT. ive owned the 130-235-3470-3490 never had a issue. sold the 3490 and wish i didnt, when they first came out.....the 1972 marantz is amazing. i want bigger now. so ill keep my eyes open. i turnt down a sansui 160 watt reciever. now i wish i had bought it. was afraid to buy vintage. as im no electronic buff. its worth investing. i think..
-
yes. the klf10's brought the marantz to life. i wish i had some other polks on it. but none to be found in good condition. i saw some newer polks for sale. reasonably priced. but im all set with those. from what ive heard. ive gone into best buy and lost all interest in the stuff they have there. i got the klipschs from a friend of my parents. they were in his closet for years. so im not complaining. they have been with me for a month or so. but they do sound nice and are almost mint....plant pot was put on one top. easy fix. were only used 1 year. then put into closet. then he went with BOSE. good for me. lol..

Those Sansui receivers that mhardy posted are sweeeeet. If you were to find that 9090db in good working order for $150, not only would you have a GREAT find, you would be proclaimed as the new Messiah, and would have to share where you go to church (I'll switch for Sansui ).
They may not be worth the $900+ they go for on Ebay, but .....Sal Palooza
