Hi all,

Looking around the net for some pics and examples, I have a rough idea on how to build a riser for a 2nd sofa. Anyone have suggestions/advice on this? I would like to know how to have rounded carpet corners on the platform and the spacing of the beams and all other pieces of wood underneath it.

What kind of material should I buy?

I appreciate all input on this thanks!

    Barney,

    I built an 8' x 3'x 12" deck for my rear seating.

I used 2x10s around the outside and then I doubled up 2x10s and placed them at every 16"OC thru the inside of the deck. I then placed 2 sheets of 3/4" plywood on top to give me a good base to bolt my seats to. Works great, very solid yet moveable.

    Peace Out~:D

    Hi Barney,

    Ron-P has the ticket.
    Use 2x8 or 2x10 depending
upon height wanted. To get a nice finished edge,
you can either overhang the plywood an inch or so and then wrap the carpet up and over it. Or you can just nail/screw on a 1x2 trim piece around the edge, then carpet over it.
If you want that plush look, use a thicker carpet foam pad.

Thanks for the replies, so what i gathered is that 2x6 might be insufficient...? right? and about the carpet luc, i'm having a hard time visualizing it. can u send me scanned drawings plz? and ron tks for your ideas on the inside of the platform, do u space it every 6" for stronger support or is it just in case?

Thanks for all the help guys I really want to make this as good as possible and btw anybody know where to get cheap transduscers like the auras?

    And again I appreciate everybody's helpfullness:cool:

    Barney,

16 inches on center would be plenty strong.
The lip you create on the top of the deck is to give you a place to hide the seams and or staples.
Cut the piece of carpet for the top 3-4 inches larger (all sides) than your riser. Pulling the carpet down over the lip and staple it to the underside of the lip (if you are gluing it down, you can remove the staples once it is set .
Work out to the corners. At the corners you have to cut the carpet almost to the lip at a 45 degree angle and wrap the carpet under the edge )which should be rounded off to make it easier.
Once the top is done, cut a single piece or multiple pieces if all you have left is scrap, and attach it/them to the sides, up to the lip. The lip hides the edges of the carpeting.

    over and ....
