I just stumbled across a complete, one owner (with the original boxes) SRT speaker system.
What would YOU be willing to pay?
And are they really the be all, end all of Polk Speakers?

The OP asked "what would you pay"? So there's no right or wrong answer. You'd pay $4000 and I'd pay $3500. -
Thanks guys.
That is exactly in the ballpark of what is being asked for them.
I wonder how many Matthew made? -

Until you mentioned them I didn't know that the SRTs I was looking at were one and the same.
But yes, those are the ones. I bought the set from Doug. -
You did just fine then. Wish I was a couple months down the road, and you would not have had the chance.________________

Wow! That is rare. What was the problem with marketing those when they came out? Was it "price", "interest", or was it that Polk was too "early" into that surround market which became HUGE years later?

Price for a stereo set was if I remember correctly like 10k..... so I would hazard a guess some of it was price. The other was also as a flagship (at that price) you want to keep numbers down so you keep selling new ones rather than having folks buy used sets from others, devalue's the product."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Doug isn't kidding about them being damaged if you were to actually trust UPS or Fedex without the original boxes.
I have an older Explorer and they filled absolutely every inch of space. The control unit had to ride on the front seat arm rest. And they are not light either. If I had to move them again I would probably just wrap them in moving pads. But that would be carrying them in my own vehicle, not trusting them to some mover that doesn't care.
Doug's set was in perfect condition, even the boxes were in good shape. Sure glad he saved them!
Thanks again Doug. -
He he, that was a pretty funny site with that explorer all loaded up. Barely enough room for the driver! You're welcome, now try and get some sleep. I see you're up at midnight, probably cranking the SRT's and forgetting that sleep is important.____________________________________________________________

Can we get some detailed pics. I am understanding the control module to be the electronic crossover with some other functions for the sub along with a passive crossover for the dimensional circuits, is this correct? The rears and the mains stereo arrays as well as the center, having passive crossovers built into each cabinet? This would leave the dimensional effect solely on the front left and right speakers. Is this correct? If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?!

That's correct. If you look at the FS thread, there are some pictures of the control unit.

The control center has two functions. The first is SDA control with three settings: Off, Normal, and Wide. The SDA is performed within the control center vs. on the XO's in the individual towers. In fact, each satellite has two separate arrays, the stereo and dimmensional arrays which can be powered separately or combined for either 2 8ohm loads or a 4 ohm combined load. The powered subs are provided signal separately from the AVR's stereo or LFE preouts. The control center provides very granular control over the subs with the usual suspect settings as well as a music and video mode setting. Two motorized volume knobs control the music and video modes so that you essentially have 2 preset but easily adjustable bass output settings depending on what you're listening to / watching.____________________________________________________________

Are the 3 SDA settings operated by mechanical switches or is it an electronic control that somehow switches the circuit? I would be curious to know how it was made to have the 3 settings.
Also since you decided on the system you will have and to get rid of these can you give more detail on your plans and what you liked better about the set up you chose. If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?!

The 3 SDA circuits are electronically switched either by push button or remote.
I consolidated my 2 channel system and HT systems into one and made some cost/benefit trade-off decisions. I thoroughly enjoyed owning the SRT's and they are the absolute shake the foundations Polk flagship HT speaker. I never even drove them to their full potential which is well beyond the 400wpc @4Ohms they were getting.
I've owned RT800's, RT1000's, RT2000's, RT3000's and the SRT's which are the pinnacle of that family. Each step up is a noticeable improvement but the step up from RT3000's to SRT's is really something special. I'm just not doing HT like I used to and it was time for someone else to have the thrill of owning them.____________________________________________________________

Great pics. Thanks. Does anyone have a service manual or schematic for that piece? I'd like to understand more about the 3 levels of adjustment for the SDA effect.
I am only assuming this. But my original thinking was that the Dimensional x-over was mounted internally to the control unit. but by looking at the pictures of this and the crossover schematics in the sticky. I'm thinking the dimensional x-over is inside the cabinets as well but the control unit uses the inductors shown in the pictures above somehow to adjust the SDA effect by switching the passive circuit via the relays on the same board. The schematics also show dimensional circuits for the rears (I think). Am i mistaken on that? If I am then it explains some. If I am correct then i am wondering how the dimensional circuit would actually operate on the ls/fx. or is it a different type of dimensional circuit, unlike the SDA?If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?!

There is no dimensional effect on the ls/fx. There was a set of SDA surrounds but those are extremely rare. They had their own control center. Schematics for the SRTs can be found here: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?38755-POLK-AUDIO-Speaker-Wiring-Schematics-amp-More-ALL-MODELS-except-SDA____________________________________________________________

I found those. That's where I got confused of the rear dimensional circuitry. I was thinking more of a schematic for the control module so i could dig a little deeper and learn a little more about the adjustable SDA circuit. If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?!
