Rear Projection and video games

Okay, here's a good question guys. Do rear projection TVs still have the ghosting that might happen when playing video games on the TV? I want to get the Toshiba 42" TheaterWide (42H81) and I emailed Toshiba about it and they consider it misuse. I personally think that's CRAP, but I want your opinion.

What other 16:9 no deeper than 20" TVs that are out there that wouldn't have this problem (if it exists)? The Samsung SLK407W is nice, but it's a TFT-LCD rear projection, and I would hate to see if there is a couple pixels that are dead.

Thanks in advance.

I played some fighting game on the PS2 last night on my new TV and **** YEAH, the guys were as big as me. I ducked a couple of times when they were kicking.

Anyway, didn't notice any ghosting on the game, it looked really incredible. I plan on renting GT3 this weekend, it has an option for 16:9, so that should be pretty cool.

Awesome choice of TV man, Toshiba makes a great picture!

No no. He is. He is.

I've seen video games on my own Tosh 40" 16:9 (obviously now an older set) and I did not see any ghosting.

I know the PS2 manual warns against using it with a rear projection TV due to the possibility of burn-in. But it's probably just there to cover their butt.

I haven't seen anything in a PS2 game that you could damage your TV with, that you can't do with a DVD player.

Question: Do most DVD players have a "screen saver" function? I have a Sony that does, but it dosen't go to screen saver until it's been sitting for like 20 minutes.

My Apex AD-600A suuuuuper cheapie DVD player has a screen saver, and I believe that most if not all DVD players have one.

Of course, it's *really* dull, i wish there were other screensavers one could load into the thing...

I think that as long as stuff is moving on the screen, it doesn't have a problem. It's when you have the system on pause for 4 hours you might have an issue;)

Oh, and those Apex DVD players play almost any format. They are coming out with one that plays

DVD, DVD-A, SACD, MP3, VCD, SVCD, WMA, and Kodac Picture discs.

    Whew!

I have been using a PS2 on a 50" big screen for over a year now and have noticed no ill effects.

I was thinking about it the other day when I was playing the new BOND game. There are always images moving on the screen, but the radar and a bar are always there. Now, on an average sitting, I can log 2-3 hours on that thing.

My question is, what is a realistic time that it would actually take for a burn-in problem to occur? When should I "take a break" from playing video games for the good of my TV?

I'm going to do some emailing around to different TV companies and see what they say.

    But that's exactly my worry!!!
