I'm new to this world of high quality sound...I've been doing fine with lowend sound (been a student for several years now, so my budget has been, for a lack of better word, tight...very tight)...right now I'm a PhD student with a little slack...not too much...but I've always been attracted to high quality audio...Right now, I've decided to experiment with stereo music...I'll probably start building some speaker sets, but the first thing I want to do is get some quality gear...but first, I need to understand what all this new world offers...what's all this of amps, preamps, mono amps, two channels...etc...where can I learn about these, how to hook them up and all the goodies...I've search the internet but most of the places take for granted one knows about everything...any suggestions?
uhm...plugged in works much better...

I would hang out on this forum for awhile, soaking up as much as you can. Also, use the search function to seek out topics of interest. If you have any hifi shops in your area, visit them often, ask lots of questions and demo as much as they will let you.Political Correctness'.........defined
