This is posted on the home page of Levon Helm's website:

"Dear Friends,
Levon is in the final stages of his battle with cancer. Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey.

Thank you fans and music lovers who have made his life so filled with joy and celebration... he has loved nothing more than to play, to fill the room up with music, lay down the back beat, and make the people dance! He did it every time he took the stage...

We appreciate all the love and support and concern.
From his daughter Amy, and wife Sandy"

I didn't know he was sick. He has been one of my favorite drummers for a while. What a magical deep pocket he has. The studio version of "Up on Cripple Creek" has an amazing feel. I still listen to the remastered "Last Waltz" on a regular basis.

We've lost some great ones in the last 3-4 years: Richie Hayward (Little Feat) & John "Mitch" Mitchell.

So sorry to hear this news.

I feel sadness in my heart today. I did not know Levon personally but he spoke to me many times through his music and I always felt like he was my best friend after hearing him. A true living legend, no longer with us.

I played nothing but Levon Helm yesterday in his honor. Thanks for all the great music!

Yesterday somewhere down at the end of the FM dial, they played a tribute to Levon that was recorded back in 2007 (not sure what station). Anyway, it was a full hour of interviews and music from his Midnight Ramble. The music was really good and and featured his daughter Amy on vocals. Good stuff, will need to look into this further. Thanks Levon.

Had a dinner at a neighbors last evening and we played The Last Waltz through the evening. What a talent and it is amazing at how Levon touch so many with what is his lasting influence. You will be dearly missed.
