Hello, I did post that I was interested in getting a speaker selecter so I could put both the Infinity SM112S and the newly reconditioned Bose 601s on the same amp my Adcom gfa555. This again would free up the zn 2 on my Yamaha and then I saw a pair of Polk Monitor 5s at this store I talked about in a previous post. Since I'm not yet a Polk owner would this be a good start or are they just small bookies and maybe I should get something like 10s.

Are you saying you want to run three different brands of speakers on two different power sources?

Depends on where you are going to use them? In a larger room the 5B's won't sound quite as good as in a smaller bedroom type setting. I love my 5B's but in the living room they don't pack quite the wallop they do in the smaller bedroom.

They need proper stands as well.

It seems to me that you're not very satisfied with your system. Just my opinion, nothing more.

Lw, seems like you want your wall of sound from your Gratefull Dead days.

I know budget is of concern, and there are some vintage models that still offer up a good bang for your buck, but why not save the coin for one good set of speakers instead of goodwill finds here and there and mashing 3 different sets of speakers in one room. Your trying to accomplish too much with too little, so nothing will ever be satisfactory.

The "wall of sound" was a lot more than just a bunch of hodge podge speakers arranged against a wall in stereo. You will not be able to recreate it with low-fi consumer gear and 20-30 year old home speakers.

Yes I am a relic of about 28 Dead shows but I'am certainly no fanatic where some have gone to hundreds of shows.I've always said and it's so true when they're good they are the best at what they do but when they are bad and they are HORRIBLE.About THE WALL O' SOUND it's so sarcastic I can't say it enough. As for putting another set of any speaker that is 8ohms I can if I free up zn2 on the rx-v665 w/ the selecter I want to get. My room size contraints and financial hole in the wallet would not lend to get many more speakers. Saying that as I said before I would like a pair of OHM/WALSH 2XS the flexibility of the omnidirectional design of course lends to placement pretty much anywhere. And yes I still listen to the Dead only certain years and shows that rate a listen.

My system is growing ,I like some things and others were a little disappointing. I probably should gone w/ a different avr but it's a learning curve that can take you a path of pure bliss or financial distruction. The gear I have besides the H/T are all used and well worth the money paid for each and every one of them.

Depending on which Monitor 5's these are they could be 4 or 6 ohm, not 8. How much are they asking? Condition? etc, that determines if you should get them or not. Have no idea what your goal is, but if you just want to hear them and decide if they are worth keeping then go for it, but again $$$ is the determining factor and it would help a lot to know what generation they are. These vary quite a bit. I also want to make sure you aren;t confusing them with the 5Jr or 5Jr+.

That said about the ohms (4 or 6) they aren't difficult to drive since they are fairly sensitive 91dB, IIRC. I run them in the office to a decent volume with a 9wpc tube amp or a 16 wpc tube amp. Won't bring down the walls but there is no issue. YMMV
