Sub Volume vs Output Level

Here's a curious question that maybe someone can answer.

Here's the setup.
The volume level on the sub which has it's own volume control is set at 30. The output level for the sub in the receiver is set at 0db.

Example 1.
I raise the volume control on the sub to 34 (approx. 2db) and leave the output level in the receiver at 0db.

Example 2.
I leave the volume control on the sub at 30 and raise the output level in the receiver to 2db.

Here's the question:
Will doing either of the adjustments above give me the same result? In other words, will the sound be the same no matter witch adjustment I choose to make or is it better to do it one way over the other. ie: is it better to raise the volume on the sub or the output level in the receiver.

Thanks for your help.

Yep, let the AVR manage it.

Let the AVR manage your bass levels. Set the sub volume at no more than 1/3. I'd start with 1/4. SVS manuals are pretty good, and there is a huge amount of info on sub calibration at AVSForum.com.
