Not Happy - NAD 355Bee problem

With the beautiful summer-like weather here in the Northeast, I tried to fire up my outdoor speakers and enjoy some tunes on the deck. My two year old NAD integrated amp (which also powers some small speakers in the living room) will not get out of standby mode. The LED stays amber and will not turn green. I disconnected all ICs and speaker wire, unplugged and plugged the unit back in and still amber. Repeat and still nothing.

I went online and found others with a similar problem. Even after the NAD service center fixed their unit, the problem returned after a very short while.

I really liked this NAD integrated and thought is was a really good sounding budget integrated amp. But electronics should last for more than two years and I am not a happy NAD customer:frown:

Sorry to hear about that. How long is the warranty on your gear?!

My local hifi shop did away with selling NAD just this year. The reason they said was because their receiver level electronics have had quiet a number of failures lately. They told me NAD amps are still solid, but I guess integrateds just aren't holding up. Sad, and scary, because I have a brand new NAD T955 amp coming in TODAY...

My NAD came with a two year warranty which recently expired. Oh well.

I won't make any blanket statements about NAD quality just based on my experience and a few internet posts I read, but as a consumer, I tend to shy away from manufacturerers that I have a bad experience with.

Good luck with your new NAD and I am sure it will give you many years of service.

Hopefully it's something simple that can be fixed for some very reasonable cost. I'd like to know what went wrong with yours when you find out.

I lost a channel on my NAD T955 while it was still under warranty. The piece was purchased from Audio Advisors and with one phone call to them I was given the name, address and authorization to take it to a local shop for repair. All good. The repair was done on time and when I picked it up and looked at the invoice of charges going back to NAD I almost flipped - it was hundred$$ more than I had paid for the amp!

Needless to say, the shop had many good things to say about NAD and were surprised to see a T955 needing repair, given their bullet-proof reputation, I just wondered why NAD didn't just send me a new one a save a ton ...

That said, the amp produces exactly as I want it to and if it gave up the ghost tomorrow I would very much consider another T955 as replacement.

I have had my new T955 for 2 days now, and have spent probably around 2 hours each night listening to different music from CDs and live concerts on BluRays in 5.1. I have to say, I am really impressed by the ability of this amp to bring out the detail in all my media, which is precisely what I was hoping this amp would do for me. I really hope it lives a long life because I really am happy with what I hear so far.
