Entire setup for living room.
Hi, new member here and I've been looking around at getting a 7.1 Home Theater setup for a while. I've finally narrowed it down to what I think will for me. I like to do some double checking to make sure everything is compatible. I honestly don't know a lot whole about the subject but have learned what I can. So my list to buy includes:
Polk Audio CS2 Series II Center Channel Speaker
Polk Audio Monitor60 Series II x 2
Polk Audio Monitor40 Series II Two-Way Bookshelf x 2 (4 speakers total)
Polk Audio PSW Series PSW10 Black 10-inch Powered Subwoofer
YAMAHA RX-V571 7.1-Channel AV Receiver
These things seem to fulfill the needs I want. It's a fairly large room that it's going into, apartment living room with open kitchen and high ceilings with a loft above. It's mostly for TV and movies, some gaming, a little music.
I'm happy with most of the choices, only considering going from the 40s to the 30s for wall mounting options. Biggest concern is that the receiver is suitable to power the speakers. Thank you in advance for any comments.

Everything listed works together with no problems. Some suggestions however:
I would go with the 30's over the 40's as they are easier to mount (and save you cash). I would go 5.1 to start with so you can spend more to get a better sub than the PSW10. I would suggest on a budget the PSW505, or something like the HSU STF-2, or any of Polks DSW subs.
Check Polks ebay site for deals on the subs, and any of the speakers you mentioned. Its their authorized site so you not only get free shipping (and a 10% discount for being a forum member) but a warranty on the speakers (not as long as if new) and normally the speakers look brand new.
The site is here: http://stores.ebay.com/Polk-Audio-Direct
If possible if you could list your room size that might help as well."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Room dimensions at 16x13. Including the kitchen that open to 24x13. Room height starts at 10 feet on one end, angling up to 19 feet on the far end where the loft is.
I'm not concerned as much with the room size being as large it is now, I likely won't be in this apartment for more then a year and the next place isn't likely to be as large.
I checked out the ebay site, and all told it was only about a $20 difference from there to NewEgg so I think I'm going to stick to NewEgg for now (Plus its all new).
For now, the 30s and 40s are the same price on NewEgg. Given that, would you still recommend the 30s over the 40s? I realize I'd have to spend more on the 40s for the mounts.
Unfortunately, both sites are sold out of the PSW505. The ebay site does have a DSW Pro 440wi that I would consider, both the 505 and DSW are $249. I'd say the $250 is about the limit of what I'd like to spend on a sub.
Thanks again. -

Yeah the ebay site doesnt have much deal wise on the Monitors v. Newegg. The price drop happens if you step up to the RTi or LSi line.
If the 30's and 40's are the same price I honestly would still go with the 30's. I had the 40's and gave them to my dad to use as his fronts and put a pair of Infinity Primus 162's for surrounds instead. I just think the 30's will look cleaner and be easier to mount since you dont have to find a stud for them (you do with the mounts).
I would very highly recommend you spend more than 250 on a sub if you can. With the amount of space you have you need a decent sub to really get any type of good bass response.
I was in your shoes to start with and purchased a PSW125 rather than opt for something a bit more expensive. I am very mad at myself for doing that. If I had spent a bit more I have a feeling I would be much happier than I am now.
To be honest if your budget is really stretched I wouldnt get a sub to start with and just go 5.0. Keep saving till you can get one really nice sub and I think you would be much happier in the long run.
A good quote about this is: "You can do it quickly, or you can do it RIGHT, not both"."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963)
