RM6700 PSW404 hook-up review

OK, first of all, yes - I've read several threads on how to wire these up, and the "best" way. However, maybe because it's currently 2:23am I'm a little confused.

My receiver offers 80-100-120 xovers, and also has an LFE attenuator 0 or 10db. I can also adjust the subwoofer output level from -10 to + 10db on my rec.

Did I read correctly that if I hookup the 404 using the LFE to the rec. I will lose the 120-150 range from the sats? No es bueno, I suppose.

So the best way then is the Polk-way? It's the way I'm leaning towards, but what are the negatives (if any)? Which equipment is at greater risk (load carrying) in which scenario? Should I pump up/down the rec. sub-out, or dial the 404 up/down?

Just looking for some additional thoughts.

Cheers

    Welcome to Club Polk Ziggy,
I am assuming that the freq response for the sats is something like 150 Hz to 20,000ish Hz. If this is true then I would recommend the Polk way because you will have a gap between the sats and sub with the LFE as you know. Set mains to large all others to small.

No equipment is at risk in either scenario unless you set all sats to large and then lean on them.

I don't know exactly where the sats are filtered. Ask Ken S. at Tech Support.

You can try 120, all small, sub yes, LFE 0, sub level -5, AVR sub out to 404 LFE in, calibrate volume at 404.

Thanks, will do - but why -5 on the rec. for subout? Just curious as to the reason for dropping the output there.

FWIW - I used the LFE cable for over 2 years. Never thought much about speaker wire hook up (the Polk way) until one day I read a thread about it. So I pulled out some extra wire - wired it all up...

WOW! What a difference, plays louder, sounds fuller, blends better, everything about my subwoofer is better. I get bass at ALL volumes, what-so-ever. It's no longer up to my dang receiver to send a signal when it so desires. On a song where I usually hit 111db continuous with the LFE cable, I rocked up to 115db with speaker wire.

Keeps pre-out THD to a minimum - cleaner signal for the sub to amplify.
