Remastered CDs - Worth it?

Just getting a few thoughts here for those who may have an opinion. Do you feel that "Remastered" CDs are worth purchasing when you already have the CD? I know this is a personal preference,
but just kind of curious if such a disc make my new Polks sing even more nicely.

In short YES. But rarely like night and day. Lot less background noise.

Better yet, move up to SACD. It is a night and day difference.

    Jesse,

Remember when we were looking in the "Magic Closet", and there was a hunk way up top that I couldn't reach, or remember what it was? It was a 2 month old Sony SACD player that my neighbor Dean sold me. One of these days I'm going to install it into one of these systems, after I buy the SACD version of "Beggars Banquet". I have read that IT is one of The Stones cd's that benefited most from the new technology. It's a milestone piece of music to start with.

Well guys (ladies too of course), I just placed an order for something from CCR - AKA Creedence Clearwater Revival. Always have been a big CCR fan. Went with Cosmo's Factory - Remastered. I'll try it, and if I like it enough, there will be more to come.

    George,

Pull that thing out and hook it up with the Carver's, you're going to love it. I concur with the "Beggars Banquet" statement, all of it. Add "Get Your Ya-Ya's Out" and "Let It Bleed" to your buy list too.

    Jesse

    Fox,

I found that the CCR remasters were not that much of an improvement over the originals and that even the SACD versions aren't that great either. I believe that the original masters were not very good to start with......garbage in, garbage out.

    Scott,

    Having a bad day???

    Jesse,

I was at "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out". I gave that ticket to myself on my 17th birthday. Every rock band should be made to listen to "Street Fighting Man" off that lp, before they're allowed to record or play anything. You just could not believe how loud they turned it up for that song. That was a great evening. You have excellent taste in revolutionary type rock bands.

Okay, now I want all three. Where do you buy your SACD's? Another favorite of mine is "Between the Buttons". How about you, and if so, do you have that one on SACD as well?

Try that other place friend. The lack of children is incredibly refreshing.

Well, we'll see what we think when the disc arrives. Beggars Banquet sounds inviting though. Any others that come to mind that I may want to look for from the rock n roll era?

for older CD titles.. i am really getting in to MFSL Gold CD's. Mobile Fidelity sound labs no longer prints those redbook 16bit gold CD's. But you can still find them.. and they sound incredible I think. I just got John Mellencamp's Scarecrow... it sounds awesome. Pink Floyd's the Wall just sold on Ebay for a cool $180.

I like the remastered CD's as well.. but would I buy a remastered CD if I already had the redbook one? prob not.

Ordered Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out, and Hot Rocks per Jesse's suggestion last night. Free shipping!! Guess I've got a couple days before I have to yank that Sony SACD machine out of the "Magic Closet".

Bonus for my daughter Tiff. She'll probably end up with the Sony ES machine I'm using now, in HER bedroom.

    Thanks again Jesse.

Great Stones albums for sure. ;)

As far as remasters go, I'll have to add Dark Side of the Moon 30th aniversary to that mix. I have both the CD and LP. They're both great. The CD is a Hybrid SACD, I haven't had a chance to hear the SACD layer but I do know that the CD layer is fantastic.

I do..they are generally better sounding plus they often have bonus tracks as well as original artwork..plus they are usually of older groups so they are reasonably priced to sell

Does anyone have a recommendation as to a good site to go to, or a brick and mortar outlet for SACD material?

    www.redtrumpet.com - free shipping over $25.00

    www.amusicdirect.com

    www.towerrecords.com

    www.elusivedisc.com

For B&M stores you have to look around, BB and CC carry some. Border's Books carries a few and Tower Records probably has the best selection. I often find that the SACD's are mixed in with the redbooks, so look hard.
