Buttkicker BKA 1000-4 Amp & Buttkicker LFE - Price: $300 + 1/2 shipping

The ButtKicker is a tactile transducer that shakes your couch or home theater seating precisely in sync with your movie, music or game. This really adds to your media of choice regardless of your sub (I was using it with a SVS PB2+) with extension down to 5hz. The Buttkicker Amp is a perfect compliment, outputting 1000 watts into the LFE.

Condition:

I am the original owner and purchased these in January 2005. The amp's face is clean, but there is some wear on the top and sides. The LFE shows some wear around the screw holes. See pictures at Flickr.

Terms:
Accepting Paypal Gift, Paypal, or USPS money order. Will be shipped double boxed and comes with LFE, Amp, and 18ft speaker wire. I do NOT have the mounting kit, I mounted this directly to the interior of my couch (as should you for the best results). I am located in Bristol, CT (06010). I have additional feedback on Audiogon and on Head-Fi. For sale in the US only.

    Looks like one channel, but:

    ? 1000 Watts @ 4 ohms
    ? 1900 Watts @ 2 ohms
    ? Can power 1, 2, 3, or 4 ButtKicker LFE transducers
    ? Class D switching technology
    ? Variable high cutoff, 40 - 160 Hz
? Low cutoff, 25 Hz switchable
? RCA and 1/4? inputs with 160m Volt and 1.25 Volt sensitivities
? Either 120v or 240v versions. NOT SWITCHABLE

I use one in my setup, though not with that amp. I'm running mine off of the second channel of my Samson 1000 rackmount amp, so it's getting 500w. Tactile transducers are especially nice if you have carpet on concrete slab like I do, because they vibrate your couch as if you had wood flooring (and it's also nice because this isn't deep bass that your neighbors will hear). If you dial it in right, it isn't obtrusive and really helps with the deep-trolling subsonics in newer digital soundtracks. I've got mine blended in with my SVS so it's mostly handling sub-50Hz bass, and really doesn't become noticeable until down near 30Hz. But boy, when there's an explosion in a movie, there is nothing like feeling the explosion in your whole body as well as the air. I won my Buttkicker in an online contest and was just going to sell it... but then I hooked it up, and there's no way in hell I'd get rid of it now. In fact, if mine ever failed, you can be pretty sure I'll be snagging another one with a quickness.

Definitely adds to the experience, and this is going for a pretty nice price for both the Buttkicker and the amp. Worth your consideration, IMHO.

As EndersShadow stated it is a mono amp, and comes with 1 tactile transducer. Not really a subwoofer, more like a piston in a sphere that shakes anything that it is attached to.

IMO yes, but read the reviews. They fill in the bottom end nicely, but do take some time to fine tune them well. Once they are setup correctly they really add to the movie watching experience without being gimmicky. I would keep it but am trying to streamline my system. As for the price, it seems like $300 + shipping is common, so $275 shipped should be a good deal, especially considering the amp + buttkicker weigh in excess of 35lbs.

    Exactly.

If I didn't already have one, I'd be all over this.
If you want to add that extra dimension to your HT, get this!
    Good luck with the sale.

Are these ever attached to the subfloor underneath or to joists? Or must they be attached to furniture for meaningful effect?

Gaara - I assume if you have an AVR that has only one sub out, you need to add a Y splitter so both your sub and butt kicker get the LFE signal?

Gaara - never mind, just answered my own question with a quick trip to the Buttkicker website. Should have done that first. Does your unit come with the wire connection kit or couch/chair connector kit?

I hear the effect is VERY impressive if attached to the subfloor/joists. I originally wanted to do this but was unable to at the time, and in my new home the theater is in the basement. I actually built a box full of sand to absorb part of the energy output as this thing was so potent (and I was using it on a loveseat w/ only 1 person).

I am including some Monster speaker wire w/ connections to hook this up. I can throw in a high quality 3ft RCA cable and Y adapter if needed. As for the mounting kit, I tried it and tossed it. Using the kit was very gimicky, just didn't get the effect I wanted. I added a brace to the inside of the couch and mounted to that, and the effect was much more immersive.

I have 2 of these mounted on a stage on which 6 chairs sit. The stage is insulated from the floor by hockey pucks. They do certain things really well- like there's a scene in Tintin where the waves lap at the shore- and there is sep bass there. The buttkickers do somethings really well that subwoofers can't. Also, they round off the bottom end of the bass well.

My emotive umc-1 has only one regular sub-out so its split by a y-adapter thru a behringer to 2 elemental design subs and the twin buttkickers.

Remember to direct only 45-50hz and below to these and tune it just right.
