time to replace my tweeter?

I discovered my Mastiff puppy nibbling on my tweeter before I was able to "save it". It appears to still be working, although I don't know that I can trust my ears anymore. It belongs to a SDA-2A. Should I replace it? Can it be repaired? It appears that it is a silicone based substance that would have held it in place before...

Lasareath is right re: tweeter replacement. Should improve the sound quality as well.

So the ones recommended by Lasareath are definitely better than the stock SL2000's? I have been doing a little "research", and there seems to be a bit of back and forth on this. Though I suppose it may be like many other subjects where opinion can come in. If it's worth the investment, then I might be leaning towards the new model of tweeter.

I know of only one person that thinks the SL2000 is better, but he's a complete whack job.

The rdo194 is a 1000% better. You should get both.

As far as fixing the speaker goes. It has lived a long and fruitful life. Let it go man, Let it go.....

Just curious....was the speaker laying on the floor on its side? You better be careful when that thing grows up its liable to eat the cabinets!

It's been extremely interesting to me to read over some of the posts on the forum. I bought a set of monitor 10b in 1991 at a local polk dealer and traded them in a year later for RTA 15-TL. As long as you traded up within a year and the new pair was at least twice as much as the old pair they gave you every penny back that you paid toward the new ones! Were all the POlk dealers like that or was it just my dealer? Anyway, I have loved the RTA 15-TL since new even after 20 years. But, the other day I was listening to my Denon avr5700 extremely loudly while no one else was home and guess what? Yep, one of my SL3000s went to heaven. This is the first thing to go wrong with these ever. When I checked Polkaudio.com for parts, that's when I discovered the forum. All my friends and family think I am so strange for obsessing over my Polks so much. It's refreshing to find that although I may indeed be OCD about them, but I am obviously not alone. So I ordered the new RDO-198-1s but they said it would be 7-10 business days for UPS ground to deliver them! I read several posts saying 2 day free shipping for members but Polk.com said no it's never been 2day, only free ground. How am I supposed to go without them that long? Anyway, I see that some people suggest rebuilding the crossovers, but I have never thought about that-mine sound perfect to me. What do you guys think? Should I fix it if it ain't broke?

DDT - might be better to start your own thread on your question. Sorry to hear about your 15 TL tweeter. Hope you like the new ones.

I always like to replace electrolytics at least. But if you are happy with them - try the new tweets and enjoy for a while till get the itch. Once you start scratching that itch things get interesting and more expensive
