John,
Wanted to say thank you for driving down and helping with the speaker shootout today. IT was great having another set of ears on the different combos of gear and I really enjoyed listening to your 'Maggies' and comparing the Parasound with your Sunfire amp.

You are not welcome! After driving south for more than two hours today, you sent me driving home empty handed!!!
Actually Doug, I never had a doubt in my mind how the day was going to turn out. The 2.3TL's, with the new crossovers were easily in the same league as the SRT's overall, and I knew they would be a better choice for what you were trying to accomplish. I far prefer a musical speaker in a dual purpose HT setup over an HT speaker trying to do music, and on that front, the SRT's never stood a chance. What really awed me however was the side battle between my $500.00 MMG's and the TL's. I did not expect them to perform at the level they did, and in many areas, those little Maggies bettered the TL's!
I am of the firm belief that the best value in sub-1k speakers today are those little MMG's.
The contest between the Parasound A-51 and the Sunfire Signature 425/5 could be best described as a draw. There were subtle differences thoughout the spectrum, most noticably on the bottom end, where the Sunfire had a slight advantage. I felt the Sunfire imaged just slightly better in the mids, with the vocals a bit more forward and focused. The Parasound was just a bit more detailed in the upper register, but to my ear again, was just a bit bright. For me, this was true for all speakers, but mostly on the SRT's. I know Doug will weigh in on his thoughts, just as soon as the shock wears off. It's not every day you do what we did and have your preconceptions shattered.
I was glad to hear my old girls sing once again, and to know that a guy like Doug will be caring for them for a long time to come.
Thanks again.. I had a great time, my back on the other hand??? Not so much. :cheesygrin:The Gear... The MMG's are extremely detailed and a very intimate speaker. They compete all too well in that regard. They produce satisfying bass for a small speaker but for my ear needed the SVS sub to fill in the bottom. The 2.3's most certainly have them beat in that regard but they ought to for the size of speaker they are. An important note is that each speaker sounded like a box until we ran the Pioneer room correction process. After room correction they came alive.
Regarding the Halo A51 vs Sunfire: My opinion is that the Parasound has the Sunfire beat in high-end detail, mids are almost identical and the Sunfire has a slight edge in the bass dept. My comments to John were as follows:
I can solve the slightly less bass problem anytime by adjusting the gain on the sub.
I prefer the more detailed high end of the Parsound over the Sunfire.
BUT
If used price range shows a ~$1,000 price difference between the amps and I was making a buying decision now that came down to price, I would gladly have the Sunfire in my system any day. I also like the multiple outputs and easy bi-amp jumper capability of the Sunfire.
Thouroughly enjoyed listening to those rare mint Beatles LPs as well. Amazing detail and no hiss and popping.____________________________________________________________

Cool beans guys, thanks for that short description of your observations. Having been an SRT owner myself, I can agree on the musical part of their presentation, which is why I sold them. HT,they kicked booty and took some names. Glad you boys had some fun. I can imagine you and John sitting on the couch with your hand down your pants ala Al Bundy style, rockin' the room.:cheesygrin:HT SYSTEM-
