I started a thread on 2 other audio message boards with a similar question as I am posting here, but got no responses at all.

I am starting to think that the Velodyne line of powered subs are either not popular, or not well accepted by most.

Maybe somebody here might have an opinion of these subs .. Here is what I posted on those other 2 message boards:

I am in the process of putting together a 2-channel audio system that will just be used for music at moderate listening levels. It will be in a living room which is about 16' x 20' with 10' ceilings.

I plan on using a set of Polk RTi A5 floorstanders for the fronts and a set of Polk RTi A3 bookshelf speakers on 30" stands for the rears.

I don't want the system thumping too loud .. just a little extra bass to round out the music.

Thinking about a single Velodyne Impact-12 powered sub. It's a 12" with a 165 W (max continuos) power rating. Not anything real powerful, but I am thinking the little extra lows will add nicely to the overall sound if not pushed real hard.

Any of you folks have any negative or positive thoughts on the Velodyne subs?

Thank's for an honest opinion,
Ron

Well, after reading other posts and reviews, I am thinking that the Epic Legend sub really offers alot more than the Velodyne.

    Welcome to Club Polk!

Impact subs are "entry" level for Velodyne. Move up the chain and you will see subs that can compete with "any" of the subs mentioned above. The only problem is that you will PAY more for a similar performance to an Epik, Hsu or SVS. But Velo certainly does make some awesome subs...just make sure you get your checkbook out!

I think that's the main reason you hear so much about the others and less about Velo (hey, we're just Cheap Bs-trds!)

I had a great sub once (gave it away to a friend when I moved).

It was an Adire 'Rava' ... really a shame that Adire Audio went out of business! I would buy another one if they were still around.
