Replacing surround sound speakers ?

Hello Polkies

I was curious about changing my M30 height speakers to Rti A1's and changing my rear surround M40's to Rti A3's. This would give me a complete Rti A setup. How much difference will I notice? I know the mantra seems to be that you only need to timbre match the front 3, but the more and more I research surround sound the more curious I have become on complete timbre matching.

P.S. I know that just because your using the same line of speakers is not a 100% accurate "timbre" match but for discussion i'll consider it close enough. I also am trying to work out measurements that will allow me to upgrade the center to a Csi A6.

Effin upgrade bug... I need a can of audio Raid

The center upgrade will make a big difference. Changing to FXi's or going to A3's will also be a significant difference. I am skeptical about A1's being that much different though. I think there will be some but not significant.

If you get a chance you may want to take a couple pictures of your setup. Often, just speaker placement will make a significant difference.

I think that upgrade bug is going around.... I seem to catch it from around here somewhere.

Seems like once I think I got a firm footing in the rabbit hole someone kicks me down a little further

LOL....that only means we are doing our job.....spending your money. Good sound is an addiction, as some of you guys are finding out.

As to the OP, I dunno how much of an upgrade in sound you'll hear, height speakers don't have alot of range going to them to begin with. The surrounds would be more applicable to better sound from an upgrade. Personally, If I were you, I'd be looking at the 9's over the 7's you currently have upfront.

Hey Tommy T, I just saw your thread, how funny  If you're doing both heights and surrounds, you might consider two pairs of FXiA6's.

Just between you and I and the fence post (and the entire forum), I get more action from the wides than the heights.

Since I've sold my entire Monitor line, I no longer have my M70 in the wide channel and man do I notice a difference. In AuddessyDSX mode, I got a ton of sound from the wide channel, talk about filling a room with sound and widening the sound stage.

When planes flew by, the flew by, when cars drove off, they drove off clear out of sight, the width of the sound stage was staggering.

During music scenes, the wides accompany the mains and fills the room with music. I was going to replace the M70's with another pair of A9's, but now, I'm going to try out my FX's in the wide spot and see what I see.

Chances are, I'll get a second set of A9's but I want to at least give the FX's a chance.

The reason I went with heights is only because of room deminsions. I know that wides are far better than heights. We are hoping to get a new place in a few years thats when the 7's go wide and the 9's come into the house as fronts..lol.
I'm going to get the fxi a4's for rears, but Heights I believe are suppose to be monopole so I may replace my m30's with a rti a1.
