GM pickup tailgate bolt

Anyone have a GM truck that they are parting out.
I am looking for a speciality bolt that bolts the suspender cables from the bed body to the tailgate.
I thought I could get this at a local hardware store but apparently there is a pivot area on the bolt below the head that the cable pivots on that makes it hard to match.

Chevy/GMC dealers will fix you up with the right part.

Ck out Motormite/Dorman part# 38642. Shoud be what you need. The Kit does both sides. Usually cost about $30 from a Carquest store,if you can find 1 around you. Good Day! Rob"Everything I ever did in my life worthwhile I caught hell for"

its the bolt that connects the suspension cable to the tailgate itself. -
Here, I think this is it... GM part # 11609938
Try this link... http://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/gm-bolt-scrw-11609938.html
Acctually, this may be it... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-Tailgate-Tail-Gate-Striker-Bolt-11570162-/230609526804
First link is #10, second is 8, if its the slide on for the strap, its 8. Hope this helps.
Does it look like this? -
thanks for your help cody.
that is not it. the bolt i am missing is a regular hex head bolt that you would use a socket set on. the only differences is that right below the head is a sleeve almost the size of the head that keeps the bolt from goin in all the way. and the cable loop rotates on this sleeve -

+1. My Chevrolet is 1994, and I can still get many of the parts at a reasonable cost.
If you're not willing to try the dealer, have you tried parts.com? Search under BODY HARDWARE, then PICK UP BOX, and choose the appropriate diagram for your model to get the specific parts listing. I don't park my truck at home usually, or I'd go and see if my bolt is similar to what you have described.

Can we get a pic of the opposite bolt in use?
-
I pulled the bolt off to look at it then put it on since i needed to haul some recliners.
it looks kinda like this one

Swing by a near by a GM dealer. I'm sure they stock them, wont take but a few minutes.
-
Try a shoulder bolt, small piece of steel tubing, or a hollow dowel pin. Maybe find something at Lowe's, but it is probably metric.
-
Just FYI.....there was/is a GM recall concerning their pickup tailgate systems. You should call and see if your's is involved, might be a free fix/upgrade.
-
-
would i just call a dealer with the VIN to check to see if this is the case? anything to save 6 bucks
-
Worst case, what's so hard about going down to any GM dealership and buying one?
They can probably still order them. Might even have one in stock.
I get parts like that for older vehicles all the time.
I think you will have a lot more luck there than you probably will on the Polk Audio forum. -
I was gonna' go there but, decided not to. Nothin like overthinking and dragging out small stuff. Case in point.....check out the latest thread on the the debate that has no end, my friend !
-
just hoping someone would have one sitting around. I called a dealer and I need to go pick it up. It is 6 bucks.. what a scam
-
You've worried more than six bucks of worry over this thing already. Specialty part, $6? Sounds reasonable enough. Go pay Chevy and be done with it.Jay
