i have my rti a1 for a year and decided to pair them with dsw pro 400 for my stereo set up, i have awesome result in playing light to moderate volume in my stereo set up but when i crank it up the bass is becoming boomy.
the dsw 400 is located in the side corner of the room beside my HT(onkyo hts5300) and STEREO equipment while the other sub for HT is in the opposite corner. they are all exactly fit in the side wall just a 8-10 inch of clearance against the wall for both sub.the 2 sub cannot be place in other location since the room is so small about 16sqm they are all place together in a single wall.
you could picture it this way...
wall --> ht sub --> rack (middle: concist of ht and stereo gear, rti a1 is in both side, ht speaker and tv is mounted at the top) --> dsw sub --> wall.
is there a room treatment i can do? can i do it myself without hurting much of my pocket?

Check out GIK. It's priced well and very effective. You can also DIY to save more coin.

Couple things, check your crossover settings and maybe adjust a tad to help out some. Secondly, whats your idea of cranking it up ? Where on the volume dial. Everything has it's limits. You might be over driving the sub. Thirdly, placement is key, if you have them sandwiched in corners, you really can't expect anything other than boomy bass no matter what you do.
Are both subs the same ? Both DSW 400's ? If not thats another issue. Are you using the crossover in the subs or the receiver ? Did you calibrate any of this or just do it by ear ?HT SYSTEM-

my HT is an onkyo htib which is hts5300. the rti and dsw are hook in integrated stereo amp(onkyo a-922m)
here are some pics i barrowed from the net.
hope to hear you again guys. -
How close do you have the Rti A1's to the wall. They like breathing room. Like a foot or so off the wall. The boom might be where you have the sub adjusted, plus the resonance you are getting from the rear port and the wall.
The rear port can make them sound boomy or whoompy if too close to the wall.
I would cross the sub over at 80hz max and back the throttle down a hair on it.
Let us know how it goes. -
Room treatments for bass are tough. Bass frequencies require damping material that is very thick---like 4 feet thick---to do anything worthwhile. You'd be better off experimenting with placement, and tweaking crossover/level settings on the sub.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2
