Best Option for Surrounds?
Currently this is my setup:
-Polk LSI15 Fronts
-Polk CS2 Center Channel
-Polk Monitor60's for Surrounds
-Energy EF-500's for Surround Backs
-HSU STF-1 Sub
My home theater room is only about 12 x 11 (estimated guess---dont have measuring tape). From LP, my Fronts are about 8 ft away and my rears and surrounds are roughly 2-3 feet away.
Are my surround speakers fine being that they are tower speakers or would i benefit from "true" surround speakers such as LSIFX series?
Before upgrading my home theater I had the Energy take classic series and my surrounds were mounted on the ceiling and I still have those mounts in place. If I went the LSIFX route, I could mount those on the ceiling and that would put my surrounds around 4-5 feet away from LP....would this create a better surround environment than towers for my room?
Thanks in advance for the help. Here are some pictures of my setup:

My thoughts:
- You need an LSi center. The fronts should all be from the same speaker series.
- The center should be positioned higher. Preferably between 3'-6'.
- The surrounds sound best when placed about 2' higher than ear level.
- If money is limited, then you can mix the rear speakers but it really isn't advised. I found changing from FXi3's to LSiFx surrounds improved my system.
- Finally, get rid of the wood paneling. -
Fast_Fox,
My advice: Ditch the BYU gear and pick up some UNLV Runnin Rebel gear, stat!
Other than that - love the man-cave!Do you hear that buzzing noise? -
Maximillian....thanks for the tips. I plan on getting the LSI center, and I did get a 12" stand for the center. I may upgrade to LSIfx surrounds in the future, but money is limited at the moment.
Also the house is a family owned house and it has been in the family for over 60 years and the wood panelling has been there for a LONG LONG time...It doesn't fell right changing it haha :cheesy grin:
Monster Jam....My father is a BYU alum which is why it is there haha!!! -
Too many speakers for that small room, IMO. Take out the four non-LSi towers and replace with a pair of F/X speakers. 5.1 is all you need in there. Don't just use 'em 'cause you got 'em.
