Timbre Matching: LSiM & LSi

I'm thinking about making a hybrid HT setup with LSi's and LSiM's, and I'm wondering how well they'll match. They both use a similar vifa ring radiator tweeter, which, while not identical, leads me to believe they'd sound good together.

I'm currently running 15's, dual C's, and FX's. I'm thinking about replacing the dual C's with a new 706c. I was so impressed with the 703's, that I'm imagining that the 706C is probably in incredible center channel.

Has anyone heard the 706C???

Eventually I'd like to replace the 15's with 703's or 707's, but that could be years out.

I also think I would keep the FX's, as opposed to going with the LSIM surrounds, because I love the FX's and their enveloping bipole/dipole nature.

How will all this stuff match up???

Even though they share the same name and similar tweeter they sound completely different, just like two different name brands. I think the 706c is the biggest upgrade from the last series to the current. If it was me I'd go after the fronts first followed by the center. For me the most important part of my system are the fronts.

There's a pair of 705's by me for sale on Craigslist for $1800. (brand new)

Yea that thing is a beast!!!

I've been underwhelmed with the LSiC, so I've been using dual C's, and even dual 9's which is awesome, but ideally I'd have (1) very capable center channel, and in my mind, the 706C is that speaker. I love how huge it is, and that it uses the same mid/high engine as the rest of the M's, which I loved on the 703's.

I'd love to go 707's for the front, but it would be a long ways out, which is why I'm curious as to how the 706C would blend with the 15's.

If you plan on eventually getting the fronts then I'd say give the 706 a try. I ended up going with the 705/706 combo.

Awesome, congrats! How is the 706????? Is it everything I'm hoping it is? Compared to the LSiC?

    Thanks.

Its much better and cleaner than the LSI C. When I had the LSI c I had to run it hot and was never really satisfied so I went with the RTI a series.

i just did not like the 707. i guess i was expecting them to be better then the LSi speakers and i did not get that. maybe i did not have the right gear, setup correct or something else. i love my LSi setup tho.

Falcon, I'm very happy with the 704C. Much easier to hear vocals without having to run it hot (as compared to the LSiC). I assume the 706C would have the same clarity with a little more low end too.

Cool. Yea, I loved the 703's when I heard them, so I was hoping that the centers were just as sweet.

If I do go with some M's, I'll run 703's as fronts, like you're doing, and I'll just keep the LSiFX's as rears. I wish the new M surrounds were bi/dipoles... that would have been sweet... (2) full engines??? woulda been killer! I love the LSi-FX's. Best surrounds I've heard to date.

No, not at all but I'm getting some reflection off my back wall and BDI stand so I'll be putting up some panels to see if it helps any.

I found the 703's to get a little bass heavy at mid to high volumes. It didn't seem to blend as well as it did at lower volumes.

Falconcry72, FYI Americantv near me is having a sale on the LSIm 706 center channel for $799. (reg.$1200) That's the best price I've seen yet and they're an authorized dealer also.

So if you guys say the sound is that totally different, I guess I better forget about using my lsi/fx and lsi9s for surrounds, as it doesn't sound like they would blend in well with lsim703+706c front sound stage...

Eh, nothing wrong with my lsis anyway, I'll stick to them for now.
