Is it possible to use an AV Receiver with pre outs for a HT setup and incorperate a true pre amp with the same front speakers for stereo listening? Currently I have everything going thru my HK 354 AVR. Need so I can wath TV and HT for Movies. The HK is my pre for Adcom GTF - 7000. Would like to incorperate my old Pioneer CD player with my old Parasound P/SP-1500 Processor/ Preamplifier for 2 channel stereo listiening. Is this possible and safe for the speakers to do?

    Yes.

Pick a line level into your preamp from your AVR Main L/R preouts - say "aux".

Set your preamp volume control to some mid level volume setting and mark that spot.

When you want to watch movies you'd have to set your preamp to that same volume setting all the time (after you run your AVR calibration sequence), then select "aux" and enjoy the movie.

When you want to listen to two channel - proceed as normal.

If your preamp has an HT Direct or Bypass feature - that's even better/easier - no need to set the volume control on the preamp.

H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.
