The Onkyo TX-NR709 has given up the ghost it would seem something in the output for the right channel (running in stereo mode) let loose the rig's protective system killed the power instantly. I purchased the Onkyo at Crutchfield as always, I have been a customer of Crutchfield since 1974 for good reason fantastic customer support. I called the tech support and the technician quickly agreed with my assessment and the new Onkyo ships on Monday. They are e-mailing me a printable return postage label to return the defective unit. Crutchfield customer for 38 years and will be for many years to come.

Advertisement? anything wrong with a testimonial I have actually been a customer of Crutchfield since 1974. As for the failure something let loose in the audio output for the right side, if I had to guess, with out going inside with my test equipment which for obvious reasons I will not do, either a set of drivers, and or a set of finals died All I can tell you is while listening I had a death rattle come from the right hand speakers woofer, the woofer's voice coil was destroyed. The rig shut down on restart it told me to check the speaker cables I did so and there was no fault, I did the usual external checks and determined the cause was internal. A check at the Onkyo support forum indicates I am not alone with this failure. OK International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker does that make you happy. If you look up Crutchfield they have a long, long history of this sort of customer support, and when it comes time to start adding modern Polk Audio speakers to my system I will order them from Crutchfield. Did I mention Crutchfield has sold Polk Audio for many, many years.Radio Station W7ITC -

You're talking to a guy who can't network his Pioneer. Crutchfield is a good place to shop, prices are a tad higher though.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Oh I remember. That was kind of funny
It is true that Crutchfield is a bit higher in price but if you wait around they do have some fantastic deals. Like the TX-NR709.
What was interesting I was discussing this rig with the Tech' support person, I asked him about to problematic HDMI boards on this Onkyo series he told me that yes there was a problem and that a lot where returned for this reason but the newest units seem to have solved the problem. One thing Crutchfield does not do is send out repaired units as replacements. Apparently these returns go back to Onkyo where they are repaired and sold by Onkyo from a virtual factory outlet store.Radio Station W7ITC -
I'm going to ignore the insults. I will say that I thought this board was kind of free from that stuff. I am the Union Thug...I believe we should have axe handles in our tool bags. Go pay 20% higher at Crutchfield......no bother to me. Don't get personal."Making life enjoyable through expensive electronics." BillD

I like Crutchfield, although for certain products you are likely going to pay a touch over $50 for a comparable product elsewhere. If you can wire your own car stereo, that is where Crutchfield really shines, IMO.
Crutchfield = the online version of Tweeter (the defunct high-end hi-fi boutique)Do you hear that buzzing noise? -
I agree that you might not get the "best" deal from Crutchfield, but they stand behind their products and they're one of the only retailers whose CS rivals Polk's, and besides, the carry Polk products and often "feature" them so it's pretty hard to say anything bad here!

There's a reason why they're still in business, while others have come and gone...
I almost always buy clearance and outlet stuff and have always been pleased. Their customer service is second to none. -

Back when AR was still a speaker company of renown, not the t#rd it is today Crutchfield featured them along with this up start company called Polk Audio. We drooled over the AR's, But here was Polk Audio with speakers that where the size of a three bed room house in Outer Mongolia, they looked so cool (still do in fact) It was thanks to Crutchfield that I have the Monitor 10B's. AR's where really expansive, I mean really expensive. But the Polks while not cheap had performance levels the AR's gave you but with a whole lot less power. Ported speakers of the time were horridly boomie. I thought at the time the sealed enclosure with the passive bass radiator was the way to go, and it was. When I brought the 10B's home and swapped out the even then venerable Wharfedale W-35's. I was utterly astonished by the power the 10B's have and will have again. It is kind of sad that after 40 years the Wharfedale, one of them anyway was damaged by the Onkyo receiver when it failed. Both W-35's will be refurbished by the end of this week, they have outlasted a half a dozen audio systems and I expect them to go on out lasting. This time with fuses.Radio Station W7ITC -
I got a $200 dollar credit from crutchfield on my Polk RTi A7's. They are in their Signature Collection, so if they drop the price with in 60 or 90 days they will refund you the difference. All you do is sign up for an email updatesAVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

Crutchfield first started selling car stereos with free custom fit kits for installation, this was back in 1974. I purchased a radio from Crutchfield for a 1973 Super Beetle I had at the time. They had a tiny add in the classified section of Road and Track Magazine. A few years later in the late 1970's Crutchfield came out with their first printed catalog. The "what does it fit" car stereo section was so good Radio Shack stores in my area kept a secret copy of this catalog under their counter so they could figure out what their car stereo's fit.Radio Station W7ITC
