Hello,

Nordost cables are 50% off now and I am considering the Baldur or Heimdall cables. Does anyone have any opinions about or experience with these cables?

I tried them in my system and didn't care for them at all, That in no way implies that you won't enjoy them in your system. You just have to bite the bullet and try them. If you don't like them you should have no problem selling them as they are a very popular brand.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Didn't care for them either, too sterile for me and my system. But as Decal said, doesn't mean they are bad for every system. Try them and find out, it's the only way.

They were a little too lean in my system and pretty bright. In a warmer system you might be looking to add a little snap to, they might work out fine.

P.s. I used the I/C's not speaker cables.

I got a pair of Baldur IC's recently & tried them in a few different places, all with my MMG speakers:
DAC (DacMagic) --> receiver, receiver --> amp (Carver), and DAC --> pre-amp (Cary).

So far I like them, but haven't done much direct comparisons to other IC's I have (MIT, SignalCable, Transparent) - waiting for my new DAC & speaker cables (MIT Shotgun S3) to break-in.

Interesting, thank you for the replies, I also noticed that MIT has a bunch of cables, half price, perhaps I should go that way instead?

I would suggest if you can afford it, try both (used when possible) and sell what you don't like.

I wish I could, but I am one of those people who really rely on others' advice. I have a very tight budget and can't afford to spend money just to try something out. I just buy what I think is the best and that is it. Thank you for the input so far.

Then go with MIT Shotgun series. S3's are great and won't break the bank. Should mate up nicely with your Pass amp. I know they do with mine.

I love the MIT Shotgun series. Also, I was allowed to borrow a pair of the Nordost cables and liked them a lot. I'd have a hard time saying which was better but for my particular system I kept the MITs I already had.

Sounds like H9 has the best advice for you then, since he has similar equipment to yours.
I'm undecided between MIT & Nordost (for IC's) at this point, when it comes to my setup.

I use Nordost Frey in most of the two channel system. I find them to be fast, neutral and very revealing. I'm sure others have different opinions. The cable Madmax is referring to are the Frey speaker cables.

If you are looking at speaker cables, I would suggest the Heimdall as these use the mono-filament conductors. The ICs for both series both use mono-filament conductors and differ by the number of conductors and terminations.

I cut the below list from another post so you have a reference of what the system consists of. The room is also fully acoustically treated.

BPT BP-2.5 (20A, Bybee Quantum Purifiers, differential noise filter)
    Sources
    - DAC: Museatex Bitstream (latest revisions from John W)
    - Transport: Pioneer Elite DV-59avi
    - TT: VPI Scout Signature (custom plinth, simgle motor flywheel rimdrive, super platter, periphery ring, ZYX cart, modded PS Audio GCPH)
    - Other: Motorola digital cable box
    Simaudio P-5 preamp
    Simaudio W-5.3 amp
    Bryston 10B-Sub active crossover
Dynaudio Confidence C1 (Stand 4, each filled with 70lbs of lead shot)
    (2) SVS PC-Ultra
Nordost Frey RCA IC (except where noted)
    Moray James digital cable
Harmonic Technology 3M Truthlink XLR IC (GCPH to P-5)
Moray James IC (digital cable box to P-5)
Nordost BassLine IC (10B-Sub to PC-Ultra)
    Nordost Frey speaker cable
    Hi-Fi Tuning fuses
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed, second it is violently opposed and third, it is accepted as self evident.

I've been wondering which version that was. I remember I liked the sound but I think I have speakers now which would really benifit from them.
