Anyone see these before? I'm guessing early monitor 5's but I've never seen the tweeter placed like that

Could they be Frankenpolks? A buddy sent me the link to ask if it was a good deal.

I've never seen these before either. Judging by the MW and passive, I'd say they're not Frankenpolks. The passive size looks like the 5JR, but the cabinet is wider, more like a standard 5. Interesting...

They are Franken Polked 5JR+'s with Sl1000 tweets. My best guess is someone replaced or altered the front baffle and for some very odd reason offset the tweeters. Or it's a one off prototype that somehow got out of HQ. Or they are Polk drivers and terminal cups in a custom cabinet. The cracked vinyl baffle and rear panel look slightly different than most Polks. The grills look different as do the grill posts and if you notice in the rear view the right speaker it looks like the terminal cup is crooked.

Probably custom cabinets (or reused cabinets) with Polk drivers. I'd steer clear unless you can verify they are Polk prototypes.

Yea I noticed the tweeters were not quite centered in their cut out space, can't imagine that was an intentional design. I was not going to suggest he buy them, especially for $85!!

    Interesting

I am guessing that it was a prototype. I believe they used to let Polk employees have dibs on them.

I sent the guy an email asking about them.

I'd say proto's as well. Those remind me of the pics I posted (and there new owner that came here asking about them) of the SDA's with the vertically stacked tweeters off to one side.

I emailed the guy. He said that they are older 5Jr before the tweeter change and that he bought new in Baltimore.

Interesting, from another listing he had it looks like he also has a pair of newer monitor 5's as well. But $125 was a little too high for me on those.

If I lived near, I'd buy the ones with the offset tweeters just because they are an oddity. By the way, the guy replaced the plastic grill clips with dowels as the plastic ones broke off.
