Is there anybody who has used or seen demo of these NILES Speaker Selectors.

I was just wondering this can be a good investment for selecting a good speaker when you want to compare them side by side with same input and equipment.

Thanks Tapesh
Thanks

If you're only going to compare two pair of speakers against each other (which is all you should do at one sitting), that's why god made the "A" or "B" switch on your receiver.

If you have no "two sets of speakers capability" on your amp/receiver, than yes, the Niles products are okay. You have to make sure that the "impedance protection" switch is not engaged on the Niles though.

If you've got the hots for one, I have a Niles HDL-4 around here someplace. It's a little scratched on the top, but not on the face. It allows switching between up to 4 pair of speakers. If you want to use all 4 pair at once, you select the impedance protection feature, which degrades the sound somewhat, but at least you won't blow up your receiver.

$25 + shipping will get it. It weighs nothing. Believe it or not, it comes with the owners manual (which has some interesting stuff in it). The top IS scratched, let's be clear about that.

Hey, I just noticed. I have been here for about three years, maybe four, and I have EXACTLY 1400 less posts than you. I notice these things.

    George,

Few questions about that Niles that you have:

Are they designed to only work with a certain ohm rating?

Is there a limit on the wpc that you can pump through them?

What model is the one that you have?

If it's something that I could use, I'd be interested, but I realize the intent on your mentioning it was to offer it to tapeshc since this is his thread/question. Should he decide not to buy it, I'd be interested provided I don't get watt-locked out of it.

    Thanks..

    Brett,

Model # on the hunk is HDL-4. Model # on the owners manual is SPS-4. All the illustrations and diagrams in the owners manual are identical to the piece I have in my hands. Go figure. Owners manual was printed in 1993. The following statements are verbatim out of the manual:

The SPS-4 is designed for use with a receiver or amp having a maximum power output of 100wpc @ 8 ohms.

The actual impedance load the SPS-4 presents to your receiver or amp will vary. If you have 4 pairs of 8 ohm spkrs playing, the SPS-4 will present a 4.5 ohm load to your amp. With 4 pairs of 4 ohm spkrs playing, the load drops to slightly under 4 ohms.

Using spkr wire larger than 14 gauge is not recommended, the wire may not fit into the connectors. Never use solid-core, aluminum, or Romex type wire with the SPS-4.

Okay, back to my statements. There is also a chart, with info on whether or not to engage the impedance protection. It is a chart combining number of pairs of speakers used, and the impedance for each pair of those speakers.

Sorry George & Brett I wasnt here to respond as had gone to a near by town to audtion LSi25. It was 150 mil + first dealer to carry them.

HDL-4, as per Niles website shoudl support 250WPC and with standard features like AMP protection circuit and all.

Brett you can go ahead and get it from George because I am not sure if I will get it or not.

I was planning to use to audion def. speakers in my home environment rather than at shops where things too diff. and you cant spent time.

Thanks again George, for caring to offer HDL-4.

    Thanks

    Tapesh,

There is a photo of the unit in the owners manual, and they are virtually identical. I'd hate to mislead someone about that 250wpc rating. If I sell something to someone, and it blows their stuff up, that's not good.
