There is a growing rumor that I have heard floating for years now, that there may be a new FAB FOUR coming our way, This itteration was given a new level of credibility now that Sir Paul himself has said as much. The new version would be formed by the kids of the Beatles. I think it is at least an intriguing idea, but I must say that I would rather see Julian Lennon take his place in the group rather than Sean. What do you guys think?
A fresh wave of Beatlemania could sweep the world after Paul McCartney's son said four of the legendary British rock group's children were considering setting up a band together.

James McCartney told the BBC website that he and John Lennon's son Sean, George Harrison's son Dhani, and Ringo Starr's son Zak Starkey had mooted the idea of forming "The Beatles -- The Next Generation".

"I'd be up for it," said the 34-year-old, who is launching a solo career as a singer and guitarist. "Sean seemed to be into it, Dhani seemed to be into it."

He added that Starkey was less keen, but that the band could "hopefully" happen with "nature's support".

All four have followed in their fathers' footsteps and pursued musical careers. Sean Lennon is a New York-based singer-songwriter, while Dhani Harrison fronts London rock band thenewno2.

Zak Starkey became a drummer like his father Ringo Starr and has played with bands including The Who and Oasis.

James McCartney, who strongly resembles his father, said he had "dreamt of being better than The Beatles".

"I'm not sure if I can do that," he told the BBC. "If anything, I would love to be equal to The Beatles -- but even that's quite tough."

The younger McCartney was playing a gig Tuesday in Liverpool, north-west England, at the famous Cavern Club where The Beatles first made their name.

His two EPs have been co-produced by his father, who at 69 shows no signs of retiring and released his latest album "Kisses on the Bottom" this year

Sounds like a recipe for some bad music....like we don't have enough already.

Not saying these young lads don't have talent, but none of them have put together anything from across the pond that would make me bat an eye lash at 'em....so I wouldn't expect too much. People will go see them for who they are and the idea of the whole thing but my guess is that will wear thin quick.

Julian sounds so much like his father that it's downright spooky. and I know that Dhany is one hell of a guitarist, perhaps even better than his father. I have not heard anything by the others, and Julian is not going to be a part of it. I will give them a listen, so long as their idea is to be completely different than their legacy. There is just no way to come close to living up to that.

By the time the members of the Beatles were as old as these guys, the Beatles were long gone.

Julian's "Valotte" album is extremely well done. From the little amount I have heard of the song writing abilities of the other Jr. Beatles, without Julian doing any writing they will be in trouble. Of course, it makes you wonder if John wrote some songs and set them aside for Julian to record? Obviously I don't know that for sure, but some of the songs such as "Space" and "Too Late For Goodbyes" sound very very much like John's writing. Possibly Julian just "copied" his style though?

Zak Starkey, Ringo's son, has been the drummer of the Who for more than a decade. He even declined Pete Townshend's offer to be a full-fledge member of the band. Here's Zak in action with the Who at the Concert for New York City....

As long as they don't called themselves The new FAB FOUR, let somebody else do that. just write good music and they may do or be just fine,I hope so. to follow the beatles or pass on as the "NEW FAB FOUR" No. Have your own Identity,in my opinion.

Would you all like to see a NEW or The New Michael Jackson, Elvis and not to mention my man JB.I don't believe anyone wants to see a group,or single person that attemps to take the place of an Icon/ or Iconic group.

Zak is an outstanding drummer IMO. I was actually surprised that he's so capable the first time I saw/heard him. Though I'm a huge Who fan, I think it's a good move for him to decline to be a full fledged member of the band. The magic with them died just before Keith Moon, with their last great album being Quadrophenia.

As for "The New Fab Four", that's putting the cart before the horse. Those guys would be much better off to do some serious shedding in private and then evaluate what they're created before making any kind of announcement. Doing it this way is putting so much pressure on themselves that unless they're absolutely spectacular, they'll be judged a failure.

Thing is, if the Beatles were all still alive and got together as a band again, they may have used up their magic well. They were a phenomenon - it's hard to capture lightning in a bottle twice.

I'll call your Beatle and raise you a Beatle. Ringo last year and McCartney & Wings back in the 70's. Both GREAT shows.

Ringo Starr's 1973 album, "Ringo"... Though they don't all perform together they do all preform on the same record. It's was as close as they ever got to re-grouping in terms of recording. Paul has indicated that something was in the works for the band's 25th anniversary, but John being killed ended those plans.

I saw Paul with Wings around 1990 when Linda was still alive. Great, great show. And I saw Ringo and his All Star Band in a medium sized venue last year. Didn't know quite what to expect, but it was one of the best shows I've seen. The band was superb and all these guys appeared to be having a great time.

The band: Edgar Winter, guitar player from Romantics, Rick Derringer, Gary Wright, and Greg Bissonette as the primary drummer with Ringo also sitting in.

Most unexpected part was Ringo's command of the stage and audience. He still had the same gentle sense of humor that he displayed in interviews in the 60's. That and the music totally pulled the audience into the show and made for magic.
