A friend of mine was abruptly moving and had to find homes for his 4 dogs. One of them was a 4 year old English Bulldog named Cyrus. My wife and I have a 7 year old and a 4 old, as well as a 13 year old Jack Russell Terrier. Not wanting this dog to go to the pound, we decided to bring him home and see how it went. Took him to the vet on Friday for an exam and a couple tests. Nothing major found; in fact she said the dog is in great shape and has a wonderful disposition. He could not be gentler and gets along great with Zoe (our Jack). We don't know yet if we will adopt him out to another family or keep him. So far, the overwhelming vote is to keep him. We just couldn't let him sit in a pound and possibly be euthanized. We are aware of the health concerns and are willing to take on the tremendous responsibility if he stays with us. Here are some pictures of the "little " guy!!!

KEEP HIM! Great dogs, would love to own one some day. My neighbor a few houses down has a 65 pounder named stella... she's a big girl but super fun to play with.

    Have fun!

Shawn, I hope you realize that when you overheard your wife talking to your kids, saying, "I wonder if he should stay ? He's housebroken, kind of cute, gets along pretty well with Zoe, and spends most of the time quietly on the couch snoring." that she wasn't talking about Cyrus.

Face it .... Cyrus is staying. You should go along with that decision. Make life easy for yourself. Don't fight the inevitable.

....besides..... although he's already obnoxiously spoiled, he is kind of cute. In a manly, bulldog way.

Its actually my wife's vote whether or not to keep him; I am not home very much and often gone 7 days a week. We do feel as though he would fit in well here and we know he would be well taken care of. Honestly the only thing holding us back from making this permanent is if Zoe starts to show signs of stress with another dog in the house after being the only one for 13 years.

Health risks vary but there are a lot of bacterial and fungal infections that can crop up if not properly bathed and such. That isn't a worry if he stays here. They have a relatively short life span, due to their size mostly and breathing difficulties.

If we do find another home for him, it will be one close by and someone we know very well so the kids can see him often.

I inherited an English Bulldog when marrying my wife. He stinks, he breaths heavy, slobbers, snores a thousand different ways, farts the stinkiest farts, drools, slobber slung all over the place, licks my leg constantly, cries when he wants in/out of the house or needs help jumping in bed, has allergies like you wouldn't believe, had multiple surgeries and has ear issues.

I wouldn't change a thing. He's my dog now, and I'll do anything to keep him around. Damn fine dog. The only thing I don't like is that I hear they have short life spans. Well, he seems to be kicking along fine and it's been more than a few years.
