Von Schweikert VR-1 monitor speakers

Von Schweikert VR-1's in maple, original box and manuals but no velvet bags. The speakers work perfectly but there are some cosmetic issues.
1) At some point the speakers must have been stored in the box with the styrofoam packing pressing against the bare speaker finish. All 4 corners on each speaker have blemishes in the finish. You have to be in the right light to see it but when you are it is noticeable (see pics). Why this would have created blemishes I don't know, but it obviously did. I tried to get a shot of it in one of the pics.
2) I have had these speakers sitting on spikes for decoupling so there are numerous spike marks on the bottoms.
3) In the pics you can see a scratch on the back of one near the binding posts.

As stated, they work perfectly and sound awesome. These are some of the best sounding bookshelf's around and have had rave reviews. If you don't mind the cosmetics this is a great chance to grab an awesome pair of speakers for not much cash. Really, they look just fine sitting on the stands. The stands are not included in this price but I might consider selling them seperately if I can find something to ship them in. They are currently filled with sand.
These are very easy to drive at 8ohm and 89dB sensitivity.

I've never heard the LSi's but these should be much easier to drive for one thing. Also, these have a 6.5" driver which goes down to 40Hz vs the 5 1/4" @ 45Hz, so probably better bass, and a silk dome tweeter which I would guess is not as bright. These are detailed but very easy on the ears.
These sold for $1000 originally. I think they are considered to be a step or 2 up from the LSi7.

Congrats on the sale. Somebody got a great set of monitors.
Laquer and Styrofoam are known to intereact with one another. Essentially laquer melts styrofoam and that is probably what happened when the finish of your speakers came into prolonged contact with the styrofoam. I am a little surprised that it would do this with laquer that has been cured but it obviously did. The speakers could be refiinished quite easily with hardly any prep required before refinishing. Laquer is available in common spray paint sized cans in all sorts of finishes, flat, satin, or glossy.

Yeah, not sure the buyer was pleased, although I described them well and took pretty good pictures. I never heard from him after he received them and he never left feedback. Maybe he just didn't like them and was disappointed. I never really thought they shined until I set them up for near field listening using the Cardas method of placement for rectangular rooms.
