This year I cleared my raised flower beds I built a few years ago and have decide to go pepper/chile garden. So far I have Jalapeno, Barkers red, Thai, Cajun belle, Serrano, Anhiem, Cayenne, Habenero, GHOST CHILE!, Pablano, Tobasco and I'm still looking to toss a few more in. I also planted a few varieties of tomato's in large 16 inch pots on our balcony.

Any polkies out there like to garden?

Really ? In Canada ? Here in Chicago, veggies usually wait until threat of a frost is gone, sometime in the beginning of May. Though it sure seems unlikely as of late, we haven't been below freezing for some time now already.

I've done some replanting and dividing of some of the hardier plants already like the Hosta's, ornamental grasses, Huchera's, thats about it so far.

I just removed some annual weeds that got a start in my raised beds due to the unusual warm March we had. Will be putting in broccoli, cauliflower and sweet taters soon. I plan to grow some peppers also since we came up with a killer recipe for the venison "bologna" last year that included some jalapenos.

I did alot of herbs last year some of which I transplanted to other areas of the yard. They do well in this climate. Where I am at we have an incredibly long growing season. The only thing that sucks is the water restrictions and the very alkaline soil both problems are remedied by good ole fashioned raised beds. SCHWARCW, dude that is freaking amazing pictures I love how you have done that. I can say I am very envious. Myself, I have always wanted to do a KOI pond with a Japanesse garden however where I live thats a big stretch.

Planted Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage, and Brussel Sprouts here about a month ago! Unusually mild here in Tennessee so I got them in the ground while the getting was good. Those will be ready to harvest the end of April and then we will put in the summer crop.

Had a pack of Kale but never got around to planting them. Dummy.

I had some raised planters put in my back yard made out of stacked stones and drip irrigation. With a south facing exposure I get alot of sun to try and grow different things.

Right now got tomatoes, aspargus, bell pepper, some strawberries, green onions, peas, potatoes, and various lettuce.

We have salads practically every other day.

I have had the same strawberry plant for two years and it has barley grown past the size of a fist! Do you have any suggestions regarding them?

    TIA

I''m still learning about strawberries myself - had the same problem. After 2 years, I've got two plants that are slowly sprawling bigger - but still not producing more that 5 or 6 strawberries at a time.

They definitely do not like the fruit touching the soil - they spoil easily that way. For me, they seem to like a good drenching of water 2 times a week and every 3 weeks or so I'll feed them some Miracle Gro.

My tomatoe vines look like crap but they are pumping out the tomatoes - have to take some to work every two weeks.

And my peas were growing like weeds - having a dozen pea pods in a salad once a week.

My asparagus can't make up its mind what it wants to do - its healthy, just not plumping into anything harvestable.

I took a grocery store potato that popped out some eyes - so I quartered it and stuck some pieces around the garden - once section is growing great - will have to see how that turns out.

The garden keeps me off the streets during the weekends....definitely not going to survive any zombie apacolypse, but do get some tasty morsels to augment a dinner here and there.

Not growing any veggies. The only place they would grow would be in my front yard. I did try something new this year. I put up about 24 foot of trellis on the south side of the house and dug a 35 foot planter box below the trellises. Going to see if I can get Clematis to climb the trellis and shade the brick during the summer. When it looses it's foliage the sun will hit the brick and warm the house a bit in the winter.

Planted a few more perennials in the front bed. Just need to plant a few more out by the tree out front tomorrow and planting will be done for the season. It's already getting pretty hot for young plants (we hit 93 today.). Still have mulch to do and thinking I'm going to add a drip system in case we have another summer like last year.

Lots to do in the backyard still. Next project back there is putting in 2 six foot sliding fence panels. (the backyard opens up into 50 acres of pasture) and getting new beds ready and the back ready for sod next spring. This time of year the weekends just don't seem to last long enough.

Schwarcw, that's an amazing yard. The stuff I have only seen in magazines.
