I am a restless audiophile. I currently own a pair of RTi55s but I am thinking about unloading them and buying Axiom Mti60s. Mmmmmm. Should I or shouldn't I? That is the question. Will I be getting a better sounding speaker or more of the same? I do not want to take any latteral steps. The only sound direction for me is up. Thank you fellow forum members.

    I wouldn't do it.

I've heard the Axiom's first hand, no thank you. Un-balanced, forced high end. (imo)

Stay safe, and thanks for your sacrifice!

Keep them. I think the RT55is are one of the best speakers Polk has made in the last few years except for the LSis. I won't be getting rid of mine for quite some time (if ever!). I have never heard the axioms but I've listened to quite a few "large" bookshelf speakers and the 55s rank right up there with most anything in their price range.

RT55i's are an amazing speaker. I think you'll have to fork over more dough than axiom's cost if you really want to take a step up.

    God bless you brother......

What RTA15TL's? Did you get them from Hoosier? They sound very close, but once again without the wide soundstage of the SDA.

    Edited for typo.....Russ;)

Where do you think I got em?

I'm curious on the 'tl' sound, haven't ever heard it. I just need some good, full range speakers for a main zone in the house. They should do the trick.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Why doesn't polk make an RTi55? It seemed like it was at least a decent seller and outperformed the competition by a good margin (both other polk speakers and other bookshelf speakers)

I suppose the large bookshelf slot is semi-filled by the LSi9, but it still seems like there is room for the 55 in the model line.

EDIT: actually I suppose it would now be called the RTi7

So where did you get them?

Actually Russ, I don't think you'll like the "TL sound." I'll do you a favor and take them off your hands so you can move up.

Thank you all for your input to my dilemma. Based upon the overwellming responses, I will keep the speakers. For the record, I purchased them from Crutchfield about two years ago. I seem to spend way too much of my kids inheritence there. The next big purchase will be an HDTV ready TV and the Denon DVD-2900 player. I also need a subwoofer probably a HSU or SVS box. Eventually, I will stop this purchasing binge.

    Again, thank you team.

PS: I will continue to monitor this thread to see if public opinon changes.

Good call on the Denon DVD-2900. I bought one back in June and i've been lovin' it. Since acquiring that player, i've picked up a lot of SACD and DVD-Audio discs. They've spoiled me.

Regarding an HDTV-ready TV, have you considered a projector such as the InFocus X1 or the Dell 2100MP? They're each about $999 and you can get a very large screen - that is if your Home Theater will accomodate such a thing.

    Dear Pete,

I appreciate your recommendation on a HDTV. I think that I am going for a 34inch direct view TV as it fits our space better. I have had my eye on the Denon DVD-2900 for several months now. I have clipped every favorable review possible and it is truly a winner. Although, it seems to suffer from the Chroma bug thing but I don't necessarily have atrained eye so it is not going to be that big an issue for me. I see that many current owners DVD-2900 are taking a hard look at the 5900. But that is out of my price range. My wife has been a terrific HT supporter and I don't want to over stay my welcome with her.

For the record I am using the new reference line of speakers from Klipsch for my center and surround sounds. I have not heard them yet as they are still sitting in their respective boxes. When I get home, I am going have a HT hook up party. Me, beer and lots of cable everywhere.

My receiver is the Marantz 7200 (bug free one). It does not suffer from all the problems that plagued the first batch of them. See the reviews in Audioreview.com for more info on what I am talking about.

    Bye for now,

    Brooke

Brooke, you can read more here about the 2900. I was thinking about it too, but decided to use my funds on separates instead.

    Stay safe.

Forum members, what can anyone tell me about Swan Divas? I have looked at their web site and the speakers look pretty darn nice, a lot sexier than my RT55is. But how do they sound? There isn't much information on them i.e reviews to be found anywhere. They are having a 15% off sale on the rosewood veneer finish which caught my attention. Heck, are the RT55i s still the better speaker? Inquiring minds want to know.

What is it aboutthe 55's that you dont' like the sound of? There has to be something that you don't like for you to keep comparing them to whatever other speakers that you're asking about.

Maybe everyone could make some suggestions to you in order for you to get your 'step up' from the 55's if they knew what you didnt' like about them to keep you looking elsewhere........

you mentioned a bug free sr7200....how do you know if you have the bug free version or not? mine is currently in the shop because of a left surround channel problem but that is covered by warranty so i dont care, it should be back soon anyway.

when i get it back what are some bugs i should look for? aside from the things that just piss people off. the remote not being backlit i would not consider a bug, popping when swtching sources i would consider a bug. i read the reviews on audioreview but they are mixed and some people just seem to want to complain about things they just didnt see before they bought the unit.

i really like the way my polks sound on it and it pushes them plenty loud for me, but i had no idea that there were bugs in them. mine was bought refurbished so im even more nervous that i have the bugged version. any help would be appreciated. thanks

    Dear Airplay355,

If you you read the early reviews of the 7200 in audioreview.com, you will get a full description of all the problems plaguing the receiver. I experienced a loud pop/thump when I turned the 7200 off and I also hear pops during track changes while playing cds. It was very annoying.

One reveiwer described how to tell if you got a good model. As I remember, it had to do with the reading the serial number. I exchanged mine for a good one and I have had no problems since.

Again, read the early reviews on audioreview.com and you will get all the information you need. I must say that if these problems did not exist, this would be a 5 star receiver. The only reason the rating falls below 4 is due to the manufacturing defects ie. the pops. The sound is awesome - very musical. I am using it stricly for two channel listening and will migrate up to 5.1 HT in January when I finish buying the last speaker - a subwoofer.
