    Had alot of standing water in my yard because of the hill behind my house...

    We are increasing my driveway from a 1 car to a 3 car - 50 ft retaining wall - leveling out the side yard, moving my building and dog lot, digging a draingage ditch in the back...

    Standing water is a huge problem which a buddy and I dug the drainage lines you see in the pics which corrected alot of it - has taken 2 years to get this finished and I had had enough so I found someone to finish it for me... Will be cool I hope

    I never want to hear the words french drain again...

    It took two years and a 400 feet of pipe to dig that stuff... lol

    Should have just rented a small, real small backhoe to dig that in one day. They make attachments for the bobcat too you can rent to dig that. Just out of curiousity, while you had the bobcat there, did you regrade around the house ? Looks like you have some areas with dips and slight berms that may hold some standing water.

    It's been my experience over the years that french drains work well....for a period of time. They eventually get clogged up. Looks like your soil is a mix of sand/clay/dirt. Having that nice sized rock around the sock drain will extend the lifespan for sure. Getting rid of that standing water will also get rid of some mosquitoes which the dogs and you will appreciate.

    Trying to save money! :)

    Actually my room mate's sisters fiance had a ditchwitch (for running under wire, kind of like a big knife) - we used that to break it up... from there we dug the rest by hand...

    From there just getting gravel and such has been a pain.

    We are grading the entire lot - I have alot of dirt/gravel/top soil to spread around so it should be like a whole new yard when done!! :)

    I never knew your house had a flat roof and no windows. :loneranger:

    redoing a yard sucks, I helped out a coworker once do it right after I was done with college. I had to haul dirt by hand for about 10 hours for about 5 days straight. I'm sure it'll turn out good as at least you were smart and got a skidsteer!
